New (to me) Huntsman
« on: June 03, 2005, 04:25:00 AM »
I picked up a used 24" Huntsman in a local store for $80. It looked to have no pitting in the barrel, but upon cleaning it looks to have a very light pitting in the bore. It is still the best used muzzleloader I have ever seen in this department (most have large flakes of red rust visable). By the SN, it appears to be a 2003 model.
I ordered a breech plug wrench, an owners manual, and some primer carriers from H&R/NEF about a week ago. I'm dying to take out the plug, give it one more good cleaning, and take it to the range. Anyone know how long they take to ship?
I'm going to pick up some teflon tape tody. I'll also probably buy a socket and JB Weld too.

Hey Crowkiller,
Congrats on picking up the Huntsman for $80, seems like a fair price.  I have owned one for 2 years and am very happy with it besides the bad breech plug design.  You are on the right track with the Teflon Tape and some good grease.  I have ordered from H&R twice in the last two years and if I remember correctly both orders came in with in a week.
     Good Luck and Good Shooting.

I received the primer carriers and breech plug wrench yesterday, gave it a good cleaning, and I think it is unfired. It does not have the pitting I thought was there.
Now it is supposed to rain for the next three days....

Remember TheCrowkiller, when you get to shoot that gun make sure you loosen the breech plug between every third or fifth shot and use a good grease.
