Remington 700 SPS Stainless - Need Advice for MOA Shooting

Just purchased a new Remington 700 SPS Stainless 30-06 as a gift for my son's earning the Eagle Scout Award.

Rifle was $469.00 from Sportsman's Warehouse and included a 24" stainless / parkerized barrel and Limbsaver Recoil Pad. Blued version is $398.00.   (The 2005 Stainless version has replaced the BDL's Stainless and the SPS in blue has replaced the 2004 ADL.)

Plan on Piller Bedding the action / Free Floating the Barrel, and adjusting the trigger to 2 1/2 lbs - beginning this week.

P.S.  Will be shooting this rifle at the range twice a month and hunting 8 - 10 times per year.  Don't reload, but have plenty of factory premium and target ammo in stock.

I would advise shooting the rifle before making major changes.  Take it apart and clean thoroughly.  Adjust the trigger..carefully.  Re-assemble and shoot several brands of ammo and bullet weights before making further changes..  My daddy always advised me to 'not fix it if it aint broke'.  Pillar bedding is great but mainly to avoid the bedding changes that happen as the stock crushes under action screw tension and free floating is a great remedy for a wondering zero from a warping stock or a tight sling.  The synthetic stock schould preclude warping and not many use the sling as a shooting aid these days.  I know every onme says that's what needs to be done but not always..  get the scope set on and shoot it a while.  Most will need somethings done to perform their best, but some do not...
