Think it would work to get a rimmed cartridge into a .223 barrel? Its not much longer, So, could that help tighten up the long throat? Or maybe the 307? looks like it would gain in case capacity also maybe approaching the .22-250. What'cha think?

its been done and yeah its about like a rimed 22-250 but why not just get a 22-250??

I would like to have the rimmed cartridge and I already have the .223 barrel and .30-30 emptys all I would need is a set of dies and a little barrel work.

I think I'd rather have a 225 Winchester than a 22-30. 30-30 brass is kinda thin, you could run more pressure with 225.

I got an old Model 70 Winny HB that is 225...it's a screamer....about 3800 fps....brass for 225 appears to only be made sporatically.....I got a good supply stashed thoguh... :wink:

Bob, this is off the top of my head but IIRC it has been done and is called the 22 Cheetah. It is was once a fairly popular conversion, again, IIRC.This is where a fella needs a copy of Frank Barnes "Cartridges of the World" In lieu of this I'm sure that Dave at chd4 (ch4d???) could help you out as well as CS at RCBS. I would think that you will need a set of forming dies as well. The loads would still have to be held to 38,000 psi. Overall the suggestion of the 22-250 is probably the way to go, just don't load it to full pressure if getting away from sticky cases is the goal, or is the goal a correct length throat? I believe the 219 Donaldson Wasp is also based on the 30-30 and was quite popular amoung the benchrest shooters in days past

The 22 Cheetah is a necked down 308 win case..the 219 Zipper and DW are from the 30-30 or 25-35 cases.

I recabered a22 Hornet barrel to a 219 Zipper, Hasn't worked
out to great, but have not had time. Have found Making brass
better to use 25-35 to start, But it's fun to work with. Datil

JD Jones at SSK Industries has all the 225 brass anyone would ever need. He has quite a few proprietary cartridges based on the 225 Win as well as the 444 Marlin. Might be the one to talk to for the conversion since he is a site sponsor.

I did a little more reading and found the 219 zipper or 219 Donaldson wasp to be about what I was thinking about. They were all listed as 1-14 twist if so wouldn't the handies 1-12 twist maybe work better with 60 to 65gr bullets?

The books say the biggest reason they weren't bigger salers was most were chambered in lever guns, that single shots or bolt guns would perform better.

Besides I got an itch fer sumptin differnt. :roll:
