Speedo check.

A friend has a '63 hot rod Falcon. He has changed the gears, tires, etc. Knowing his speedometer is off he stopped by to see how his machine stacked up against the GPS. He was impressed that this little gadget could tell him his real speed plus it cost him a whole lot less than going to the shop. He'll do the calculation and change speedo gear to get straightened out. Good stuff.

I use the gps on my boat for monitoring speed.  The on board speedometer is way off.

My granddaughter keeps track of my speed when I am hauling her around in the pickup.  The one mistake I have not made is letting my mother-in-law have it in the backseat.

The Garmin 76MapC has a number of options regarding speed in <setup>Units>Distance/Speed.  The options are Statute, Nautical (nm,kt,ft); Nautical (nm,kt,m);Metric or Yards.

Is your buddy's vehicle a street rod?

Yes, the Falcon is a street rod. Highly modified 260 cu.in., 5 speed trans., Must. II front end, etc., etc., etc. Runs strong and looks good. After the speedo gear is corrected he'll even know how fast he's going.

I went on a ride with a buddy today in his dune buggy.  The objective was geocaching.  But I also was able to call out his speed for him.  I was able to give him an idea of his speed at certain rpm's.
