Anyone know where i can get a .22 cal. brush and jag in 5x40 thread? I just hate those big fat 8x32 rods in my little .22 bore. Seems like adapters are as fat or fatter than the bigger rods. Anyone else annoyed?

Got one, and it definatly has its place but there are times when you gotta get down and do some deep cleaning! :D

Get yourself a dedicated .22cal rod.  The Bore Tech "Bore Stix" rod is a great coated rod and is what I am currently using.  Tipton also makes a nice rod for .22cal - not so much a Coated rod, more of a fiberglass material.  I'm sure Dewey probably makes one as well.

These cost more than a cheapie aluminum rod - but are well worth the price.  You can get good prices (and sometimes sales) on these at MidSouth Shooter's Supply and MidwayUSA.

Mark, could you give me a diameter on that rod? I have a good one piece stainless rod, its just thick! I got a coated rod from walmart that outters makes and it has a blue coating on it thats really tough. It has the 5x40 threads. Wish i could find a 22 caliber brush and jag for it! :D

Tad...........

The Bore Stix rod is .195" in diameter and the Tipton rod is .210" (not sure about the Dewey's rods diameter as I don't have one).

All 3 rods have the 8X32 threads.  From what I can see online, you have to drop down to a .17 or .20cal jag to get 5X40 threads - seems no major manufacturer makes .22 jags or brushes in 5X40.  If you REALLY want a 5X40 jag, I guess you could get a .17cal jag and use THICK patches - but that won't help much with brushes though. :(

I'm using the Tipton jag on my rods and it is the same diameter as the Tipton rod, and slightly larger than the Bore Stix diameter.

If you go with one of these rods, I have to say I really like the Bore Stix.  All three have rotating handles, but the Bore Stix has the smoothest action of the bunch.

I do use a large patch on a 20 cal. jag, and that works fine. I think i'll look into the bore stix. :D
