These are the actual E-Mail that I received from N.E.F.  The last one say's that they are in fact .310.  The wait is over boys.

Hi...I recently purchases a used Handi-Rifle and I am considering an accesory barrel, but fist wanted to make sure that this is one of the receivers that you will install a new one for. The serial # is N*******.  I have heard that you are going to be offering a 7.62x39 this year and I am waiting for the release of these new barrels.  Thank You

Reply from N.E.F.
I have the 7.62 available at this time 82.00 for the barrel 15.00 fitting fee and a 10.00 S&H charge  Thank You

Just one question.  There has been much speculation whether it would be .308 or .310 bore.  Is it in fact .310....this is what I would prefer for reloading.

Reply from N.E.F.
It is .310 diameter

that is around $117.00 out of my pocket by the time I pay for shipping to them. Starting to get a little high. I can buy the whole gun for around $196.00 from walmart.

Yeah.

I'm thinking on this one. I'd gladly buy a complete rifle were they available. I don't really want to add another barrel to my one SB-2 action. I don't want to miss out either.

It's a puzzlement.

Wonder if this will work on my SB1 30-30/shotgun frame?  Anybody know?  If not, I can see myself popping for one of these when the full rifle is available.

I would not, Longcruise. You're looking at about a 25% increase in case head thrust over the .30-30.

I agree.  Thompson did not chamber it in Contender, and does not offer it in the new G-2 for exactly that reason.  The 7.62x39 has a wicked taper and causes too much pressure.

.310  7.62x54 or .303 re chamber?  Seems reasonable.

Good Advice DJ.  I'll put it on an SB2!

That's what I was thinking. :-)   Either one would eliminate the NEF throat and allow a close match type reaming.

I'm running a group buy on six cavity moulds that should be ideal for these barrels. See the Cast Bullet forum for details.

I don't think Anybody here knows what the throat is on these barrels yet.  It has been my intention all along to use this barrel for a cast bullet/light load thumper project rifle. (PoorMan's Whisper)  I am going to just have to wait till I get it..and see how ample the throat is for heavy bullets.....but at the same time.....if the throat is TOO long..then it will lose accuracy for the cheap factory ammo.  Only time will tell.

There was a group buy on some ~200gr spitzer molds last year, basically the longest bullet you could fit in the Lee single cavity mold blocks. Might be ideal for your purposes, you could probably lap the driving bands in the mold if it throws smaller than .311. Fellow who ran the GP was known as "Aladin" on most boards. There were over 100 of them made, don't know how hard it would be to find one.

Yupper..Thanks Mitch.  I went in on that group buy over on Culver's website.  Those bullets are awesome in my 7.62x25 chamber adapter for 30-06.  I can't wait to try them in the 7.62x39 NEF barrel.

What diameter bullet is it dropping? I bought two, but haven't used them yet.
Thinking about casting a piece of drill rod into a bullet, coating the driving bands with bore paste, and using it to open up one of my molds to 7.65 for my 1891 Mauser.

Mine are averaging about .311...should be good thru the .310 barrel without sizing them.  However...I will also try them thru my .309 sizer with gas-checks.  I don't have a way to install the gas-checks without sizing the bullet, but if it looks like they will work well in the 7.62 barrel, I might get another sizing die from Lee.  I need one anyway, because then I could also use these bullets in my M-44 Nagant.  I also have another old spitzer 2 cavity mold that I got at the gun-show, but it is missing the sprue plate, I need to send it in to get re-fitted. It is throwing appx .313, and makes both a small plinker, and appx a 180 gr bullet. This mold could be meant for casting a two-peice soft-nose bullet, not sure....Plus...my 175 gr Lee round-nose might work well.

As excited as I am about this barrel...I have to wait.  My work has been slow and both my Rent and my Fiancee's birthday hit on the first of the month...so I have to wait another week or two.  But then..there is also the other problem....I have wanted a single-shot 7.62x39 in .310 for a long, long time, but.....I also want a .308 Winchester...and a 22-250...I could go on and on....This is tough stuff.  How do you guys decide where to STOP? I had this problem with Contender barrels....the handi is all new to me..and it is driving me nuts.  Has anyone gotten the 7.62 yet?
