Say what..................

What kind of hearing protection is everyone using with their contenders at the range? I was firing my 45-70 super 14 with muzzle brake saturday and i think i need to update my old ear muffs, they still work ok but i got alot more noise than i used to get and think i need something better.
Any suggestions ?? thanks

I use the disposable foam inserts and more often than not will use over- the-ear muffs as well. The 45-70 is a noise-maker. I have one similair to yours in eb@y now. One can never be to protective of ones hearing in my opinion, especially in a controlled environment like a shooting range.

It is definately a help to "double up" on hearing protection with both plugs and muffs. Note that muffs will degrade with age (cheap ones don't last long at all) so plan on buying quality once or new cheap ones every few years. Gas volume and muzzle pressure are two major factors in the noise a firearm makes, along with the distance from the muzzle to the ears. Brakes make the noise worse to the shooter's ears, hastening damage.

Yes, the damage is real and it is cummulative - you may not notice it at first, but after a few years you will. My ears ring all the time whan I'm in a quiet environment.....

I use Walkers Quad Power Muffs..they work great at the range when using my 12in. Encore in 44 mag or anything else for that matter..

howdy,
i just purchased 2 pair of the peltor tactical 6s stero electronic earmuffs.
they had been on sale at midway for $65, and they work great. you can hear people talk, and it blocks out range noise, gunshots, etc. best move that i've made. try someones, and you will like them.
