Being new to black powder, i'm kinda stumbling in the search to find an accurate workup for my knight lk-93. Using 300 gr 44 cal projectile (azone hard cast) in hornady sabots and ~ 70 grs of triple 7, i'm able to group good at 20 yds (one ragged hole).
Not hitting paper at 100 yds.
Anyone know of a good place for me to start?
Also, how much powder can i get away with using with this weight of bullet- sure dont want to blow up!!
Tried round ball- and that wasnt the ticket at all. Tried 240gn lasercast in sabots and that sucked as well.
I guess the first setup i described was working the best- but so much smoke i couldnt see where i was going wrong at 100 yds.
Open to suggestions for round ball, saboted rounds, or straight 50 cal.
Oh yeah, i'm set up for the #11 nipple.

get some hornady 44x200 xtps
are you using 2 or 3f 777, if 2 use 3

and 80 grains of FFF

Try a 260 gr. Winchester platinum tip and 80-100 gr of Triple seven FFG. That's a sub MOA load in my Knight Extreme. Also adjust POI so it's 1" above the bull at 25 yds and you should be pretty close at 100 yds.

I had great results with the Hornady XTP 300 gr in .429 with the green sabot and had equal results with the Hornady XTP 300 gr bullet in .452 with the HARVESTOR sabot ( they are thinner wich makes reloading easy and is very accurate in the same rifle. All using 100 gr of pyrodex loose or pellets ....

Give them a try you will enjoy the results......I did

I shoot the USAK model which is VERY similiar to your LK-95.
I've found that 45cal bullets in sabots work best in at least 300gr of weight. My baseline round is the Hornady 300gr XTPMags over 80gr of loose 2fg 777 powder. This round holds wonderful groups for me out to 100yds no problems & carries 1500fps. I usually hunt with 350gr bullets which give as good or better groups with more punch.
I think you found out a basic truth that cast bullets with grooves don't shoot as accurately as sabot-specific bullets do.

Patched round balls will not shoot REAL well out of this gun since the twist rate is too fast....................but 70gr of 777 will shoot them respectably out to 50 yds or so.

If I'm not mistaken, that rifle is rated for 120gr of Black powder max..........which would be about 110gr of 777 as max load. But I've found that pushing to the max hurts accuracy.

BTW............ I'm using CCI #11Mag caps on my rifle.
