can't decide
« on: June 03, 2005, 04:53:55 PM »
Hello,

I have been bouncing back and forth for a while about contender or G2 or encore.  I like the weight of the contender and would go G2 however I am looking for stainless steel.  on the other hand the encore does more options.  I am leaning towards an stainless steel flatside.  how much tinkering will it take to make it shoot well?  I am thinking 223 for varmits 7/30 for deer/bear/elk then maybe a 45/70 or on of the JDJ's for elk later then of course a 22lr 22mag and a 17hrm as I am a huge rimfire fan.  I would appreciate any input you all could give.

thanks

Hi
Most of what you name are contender/G2... Encore are bigger(!!!) calibers.
Look around with money in your pocket, you will get a good deal. Or if you are in a hurry take more money and go to your local dealer. Check if there is any silhouette in your area, there is almost always someone with one for sale or know someone that has stopped shooting. Then you can afford more barrels....and that is a sickness!!!!!
Good luck

From your post, it sounds like you are leaning toward the G2, and it sounds like it will fit the criteria you are looking for.  :D

"I am a huge rimfire fan."

That alone should sway you toward the Contender or G2.  It is much more trouble to get the Encore to fire rimfire (no second firing pin on the Encore).  That and the other calibers you mentioned and it's in the bag.

I have 3 Contender frames and 2 Encore frames. I don`t shoot anything larger than .357 mag. in the Contenders because the recoil is to bad. I do have 2 .454`s and a .500 S&W and don`t mind the recoil from any of them. If your going to shoot larger cal`s get an Encore. They`ll handle the small cal`s. as well as the Contender, but they are a must for the heavy stuff.
