Update on my 44 mag
« on: July 08, 2005, 08:08:05 AM »
I received the stocks from kenbev the other day a put them on. They look great! I took the cheap Trashco scope off of it and finally removed the weaver base. It took about an hour to get the base off. 3 broken flat head bits later it finally came off. Some one put red lock tite on the threads.

My plan was to order an Ultra rail for it but my plans have changed. I "modified" the weaver rail. I cut i down to the third screw hole and drilled the other 2 holes in the rail. Now the rail completely rests on the chamber. But i started looking at the hole for where the rear sight use to be and noticed that it was the same size as the mount screws. I put the rail on the barrel where the rear sight use to be. I plan on using a red dot but could you use a red dot as sort of a scout scope.  Here is some pics.

I took these pics before i finish the rail. Should i mount it there or back on the chamber?

Forgot to mention that if i mount it out where the rear sight was i will have to get the barrel tapped for the other 2 screws.

How did the el-cheepo red dot hold up to the 44?

I have been thinking about a scout mount of some kind for my 44 and using a pistol scope for it.

Honestly, for the money you can't beat the scope. I haven't had it on the long i put about 50 rounds through it wearing the red dot back during hunting season. My cousin had one on an encore or a contender maybe both. He said he put that little scope through hell. He put is on anything from a 22lr to 45-70 and it didn't give up on him until about the 15th or 16th barrel it had been on. Like i said for the money you can't beat it.
