What is the largest Bullet that the .17HMR can handle?

Hi:

  Does anyone know what would be the largest bullet that the .17 HMR could take? I know that a rimefire round cannot be reloaded , just would like to know what the ammo companies could load the .17 HMR up to.

They're only loaded in 17gr and 20gr, I wouldn't want a heavier bullet than the 20gr, or it would loose the main characteristic of the 17hmr that we all like and appreciate....high velocity and flat trajectory!

The 17gr. V-max bullet is about the best for the 17HMR I think like quickdtoo said you lose to much of the flat shooting high velocity that the 17HMR is really all about. Shot alot of game with the 17HMR and tried all the ammo and I like the 17gr. V-max the best thought the 20gr. would be the one but its to heavy for the 17 I think. Mag-check

I recently Chronographed about 15rds of Hornady 20gr XTP ammo.  I did not have a single round UNDER 2500 FPS.  

I am not sure of the BC between the 17 and 20 ??  

The only thing I lose with the XTP's is accuracy..  I cant get them to group in my G2!   Federal 17grainers are superb in my gun..
