« on: January 05, 2006, 08:51:19 AM »
I have been watching the fires in Ok. and Tx. and am wondering are these fires going to cause a problem with plans for this years PD shoot .

Any of you guys from that area know anything about how these fires are going to affect the PD numbers .

well i would guess it would put a big hurt on them but the fires , as far as i know are down in the middle of OK where the shoot was at was up in the pan handle Texas county so the fires shouldn't hurt our p-dogs.
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while

MHO, It is not going to afect to much, P Dogs will go under
ground if a fire is burning over a town Most of the places we hunt last
year was just grass. And if they good rains in the spring, might
be more dogs. Just my Idea on the subject. We should find out from
one of the locals. Looking forward to seeing every body.

All of the fires (so far) are out east, and down south.  They're quite a ways away from where the shoot will be.

Yep those fires are all around Lik2hunt and I. One of the big ones was just across the highway from Lik2hunt. It's so dry here that I'm sweatin bullets, because I've got a 700 acre pasture across from me that got lot's of tall sage grass on it. 1 guy did'nt have enough time to get off his property,so he just drove off in a farm pond to keep hisself from getting fried.  Digger

You may want to find a tractor and disk , And cut about a 100 foot around the edge of that pasture so if it burns it will make a fire break .

Careful is the word alright. I travel up and down I-35 quite a bit in my job and there have been numerous fires between here and OKC most look to have been started right along the highway too. There are temporary roadside neon signs every several miles that say"!!!DANGER!!! Extreme Fire Danger!!!!" Just yesterday I passed a pretty big burner at the foot of the Arbuckle mountains that was still in progress........smoke, fire trucks, hiway patrols, quite a sight.
As I was traveling locally today I noticed something that I hadn't payed much attention to until now......nothing is green around here except for the cedars and we all know how fast they burn. I mean all vegatation is a golden tan color almost white and dry as a bone! Just told the wife tonight that once it does start raining again, it'll probably rain non-stop for a month or two and you guys will be hearing about the flooding around here then. OKlahoma....gotta love it.

I don't think a 100 ft. firebreak will do it here with the wind hitting 25 to 35 mph. The wind will carry burning debri for 2 hundred yds. or more. Digger

You're right Digger.  A hundred foot fire break won't do anything in Oklahoma.

The only thing that's going to help us is about a three or four day rain.  I'm talking about a real turd floater.

Long as it rains at night, all night every night for all I care, but.......flatbed drivers have to tarp when it's raining.  :P  So a break in the daytime would be better for me.  :D
Kidding......any rain right now would be welcome.
