2nd Range Report on Buffalo Classic .45-70.
« on: June 14, 2005, 12:55:55 PM »
Afternoon.
Finally got back to the range with the Buffalo Classic and cast bullets.
Shooting at 100 Yards off a bench with a bench rest up front and a bag on the rear I managed a less than half inch three shot group. Using the factory sights.
Load was 26 grains of 5744.
Starline Brass.
Winchester Large Rifle Primers.
405 Grain Cast bullet (Plain Base)
OAL.2.580"
Lee Crimp Die.
Been playing some with seating depth and looks like I found the sweet spot, for this rifle.
Am going to try a heavier bullet next. This rifle makes you work some but it will pay off.

Rich, what alloy are those bullets? Soft, hard cast?
I seem to get my best results with soft bullets under 1400fps.

I picked up my Buffalo Classic two weeks ago and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet!  I just loaded some 405 gr cast gc's over 28 gr of 5744 and some 405 gr rem soft nose over 50 gr of 4895.  I hope to shoot some this next week.  I try to let you know how they work out.  These lead bullets are very hard.  44 Man
