SKS w/ Detachable AK Mag?
« on: June 13, 2005, 07:37:27 AM »
I have heard of them and looked at the first one last week.  Appears to be Norinco (failing memory).  It feels shorted and heavier than the other Norinco's.

The stock looks like it was made for the action and everything is in the right place - meaning it doesn't have the profile cutout of the fixed mags.  Doesn't look like a conversion to me and it is not one of the duckbill mags, but true AK mags with the ridge at the back.

What is the going price?  $180 is asking for this one.

How is reliability compared to the fixed magazine guns?

SKS w/ Detachable AK Mag?

Its an SKS "D" or SKS "M"  model  they take AK style mags. There are Norinco Hunter models in both sks's and Ak's style guns that take ak mags too they just have a sporter stock.  I'm not sure but the ones i have seen and owned didn't have the last shot open feature.  I guess its a matter of practicing I find the front lip hard to catch on the sks ak mag guns.  On the other hand the Saiga Sporters that come with detachable mags seem to loc up quicker again these don't have the last shot open feature.  I guess there is a problem importing new guns with the last shot loc open feature.  I guess we can change out mags faster with it.

Now back to your question. It functions fine yet  feels different than a regular sks.  The mag well is boxed with a sheetmetal insert.  The bolt is different its flatter on the bottom to clear the heavier/thicker AK mag lips. I never had a problem with any of them.  The price range here and on the net seems to be between $200 and $400++ for one.  If you get it just buy good surplus AK mags for it the cheap flimsy replacement sheetmetal mags suck.                                                                     BB
