Length of Yugo M48 Mauser Action?
« on: June 10, 2005, 08:27:22 AM »
I understand these actions are somewhat shorter than earlier 98 actions.  Can someone tell me what range of cartridges these actions can handle without major modification?  Will they handle 30-06 length cartridges?

Thanks

They were sized for the mid sized cases like the 7X57, 8X57, ETC..  The 30-06 could probably be made to fit but it would not be a good fit..  If you want a 30 caliber round use it for the 308, for a 35 instead of the Whelan, build a 358 win.

They are large ring actions, identical to a model 98 but just short enuff that .30-06 based rounds won't fit. 7x57, 8x57, .308, and .376stery will work great thou. Very strong actions also. 8)
