Honest report on PD shoot?
« on: June 05, 2005, 01:28:30 PM »
Some really oustanding shooting was done out there by the 3 oldest shooters( Marv,Greybeard, and myself) They each easily shot 10 times as many as the younger shooters with 80% less shots( with the exception of Deadeye's 5 times as many) and the younger shooters learned a lot from us older gaspasser's.
It was a nonstop Male Bovine Scat seminar every minute we were there (don't ask, look it up). Mitchell's 204 made some spectacular close blowup shots, and lots of pd's made made very impressive disentergration acts

for us.
All you guys that missed out, should be out picking up beer cans or somthing to start making money for next yr.,so get busy. :-D  :-D Digger

I didn't lazer all of them but Mitchell did some of them at the 450 yd. mark for Fuzzy and I. Its really something to watch when Fuzzy hits them at that range with his 25 06.  There was lots of long range shooting at 500 plus, and some of them bit the dust. Msp you're going to have to make it next time, because these guys are the best.  Digger

Anyway, youall have a safe trip home. And please post some pictures.

Sorry about no pictures, didn't have time to take pictures, and besides that I don't know how to post pictures, annnnnnd I forgot and left the camera at home on the table.Granpa Mike took lots of pictures and plans on posting some I think. Just to make everyone that didn't go feel bad, there was 4 of those nice walnut stocks, including a thumhole, that were givien away at the drawing. Also before I forget,Greybeard M. C.ed the drawing and done a very fine job. Wes got all emotionale when they gave him the new 204 rifle for all the work he did. He really didn't expect anything for his time and effort, but a couple of months ago all the guys chipped in and bought it for him as a surprise gift. There was lots of really happy guys there that night, and I for one will never forget it.  Digger

I think Jimmy and I made quiet a few 500 yrd shots and connected with with a few. I know one thing you can hear the P-Dog POP at 500 yrd. Hit some with the 243 Ultra using Hornady 58 gr. V-Maxes at 200 and less they didn't POP they went into a mist. The 243 shined and the 223 shined. My 204 in a Savage did real well even tho I know that is a bad word to some people. My 22-250 in a Remington was a great long range gun. My close range gun was the 22Hornet Handy it made me real proud, seen it seen one lucky pup at least 10 plus ft air born. I did take plenty of NEFs but some had to stay cased.

After all it was meant for shooting an BS.   :-D  :-D  Digger

That was a bit over stated. Tweren't an inch over 630 yards and took two shots. But I was shooting free hand with iron sights so that's why it took two shots.

Clint made some shots close to 400 yds, shooting across 1/2 section of
pasture, No range finder with us,  The 219 Zipper did good job when
the blind ol' man did his part. All but three shots was with handi.
The best place we had was  Sunday. Clint just about out of ammo So we came home Monday morn. Marv

One time I leaned down to go grab another box of ammo and left my gun setting on the bag loaded. It was so dang sure of itself that when a p-doggie popped up at 400 yards it just went off on it's own and misted that sucker!

I got a triple with my slingshot at 500 yards too!

I left the blowgun at home..........didn't want to show everybody up too bad ya know.  :D

Seems to be a lot of talk about the best shooters.  Digger thinks the 60+ (years old) crowd were pretty good.  I must admit they are darn good.  DJ and I had quite a different problem.  After a few dozen hits with no misses, our Pdogs started giving up.  DJ wanted to blast them anyway, but I reminded her of the Geneva Convention, so we started taking prisoners.  Besides I whispered to DJ that we only had about a 1000 rounds of ammo left.  You would have thought DJ was SGT York, the way she had them lined up with their little paws reaching the sky.  We marched them all into the back of the pickup.  I counted 1,402 P.D.S. & B.S.S. (Prairie Dog Shoot and BS Social), but DJ counted 1,404.  Anyway, we realized that we had another problem, keeping the little buggers quiet, the trip back home and all that yipping.  DJ got so fed up at one point in Tennessee that she was going to release them there, but I got them quieted down.  This still left us the problem of what to do with them.  DJ got this great idea; we have this acquaintance that we donÂ’t like very much.  Lisa has a farm a few miles from us in Virginia, so we released them there.  I figure in a couple years we may have P.D.S. & B.S.S. in Virginia.
