.410 Shortshells & Unique ?
« on: April 01, 2005, 02:19:36 PM »
Just started loading .410.  All of my other shotshells and pistols use Unique.  Hate to inventory a different powder for just a few rounds a year.  Can Unique be used, and any suggestions for a formula?

TIA.
Jim

I checked Alliant's web site and they do not have a listing for unique for the 410.  They list 2400 and 410 for that application I believe unique is to slow for use in the 410. The 410 generally requires the use of the same powders used in MAGNUM handgun loads.
Just another worthless opinion!!

IIRC 2400 is a slower powder than Unique.

Slow is needed NOT fast. Unique is NOT for the .410. The traditional powders have been 2400 and the two 4227s. Now there is also W296, H110, Lil' Gun and I think one more even newer one.

What Graybeard said... Sorry... thinking one thing and typing another. slow and fast both have 4 letters. Just another reason to remember to wear your seat belts. Head trama is a bitch, especially as you grow older.

Alliant has a new one for the .410, it's 410. Haven't heard anything, good or bad, about it yet.
On the 19th of April, 1775, a tyrannical government sent an army to disarm its citizens. They ran into a touch of trouble.

I've used some of the Alliant 410 powder.  Seems pretty good in my STS and WW AA (old style) cases.  Charge weight around 11.5 gr means it is a very economical load.
