A bit off topic, but have you tried the Hornady custom 165 grain BTSP factory load for your .30-06? This is my go-to deer load and has taken almost a dozen Alabama whitetails with out complaint. Never a "huge" exit hole, but nonetheless dead deer that don't run far when hit in the heart/lung region.
