Range report 45-70 22"
« on: September 10, 2005, 01:57:43 PM »
Decided to go to the farm today for some family time with dad.  Brought along my Handi 45-70, 44mag SA revolver, Colt Python, 1911A1, and my Bersa Thunder 380.

Report on the 45-70:

Being that I just got this a month ago and only fired one round through it for poop and giggles, it hadn't been sighted in.  So I measured off 50yds, pulled my car up and pulled a headrest off and layed it on the roof.

First shot was high 7" and left 3", adjusted windage and got a 6.5" high dead of center on my second shot.  Adjusted range down and place the third round 2.5" high of dead center-which is where I like it for deer.(brush/thicket hunter)    So dad and I took turns aiming at dead center, every round cut the existing holes at 2.5" high of center.      ......SWEET!!  And I mean every round after final adjustment cut an existing hole.   My pops and uncle was quite impressed for such a "cheap" gun.

Now you ask what I was shooting for ammo...   factory load Winchester 300gr JHP Super-X.    ...I've never in my life before seen factory stuff shoot so good.  Kudo's to Winchester!

Bad news is, after taking the scope off my buntline lengthed 44 SA revolver, I couldn't hit paper for nothing(50yd).  ...didn't have much time left til I had to run to fix the neighbors computer.   ..so we popped off some 45acp and 380acp at some 2 liter bottles.   I'll get back to adjusting the long peace-maker in a week or so.
