Hellacatcher,
Do you think those blackpowder loads would be pretty good for hunting? I want to save them and see come muzzleloader time. I really enjoyed shooting with you and Dennis. Maybe, in the fall during the 3rd week in October, when I'll come home for a week, I'll try to bring my whole colection of handis to go to the range.  :-D   . Man, it was definately warm Sunday. I'll be glad when the hot weather is gone! :toast:

I think the Buffalo Hunters of 140 years ago would confirm that 45-70 BP loads would work just dandy for hunting...  :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D

Tommy, I've got some 500 grain round nose BP loads that would slap a normal whitetail silly if I could hit it.

It'll be awhile with lots of practice and such before I hunt with my Buff Classic.

This is for me though. I'm real new to reloading and to be honest, need to practice my shooting alot.

Where I hunt deer it is shotgun  or handgun only, so if I wanted to hunt with the BC, i would need to find a new place to hunt.

Best of luck.

I was watching a hunting show the other day, this guy in Wyoming, I think, was hunting Buff with his Sharps replica in 45-70.  He mentioned he was using 400gr bullets but made no mention if they were factory or reloads and no mention of velocity.

They also never showed where he hit the buff, but it took hin FOUR shots to drop it.  Extimated weight was 1800-2000lbs.

One noted point, all but the last shot were on a trotting buff.  Like I said, I have no idea where he hit him.  The buff didn't even act like he'd been hit on the first three shots.  He claimed to have hit him with all four and the guide said "good shot" on 2 of the 4 shots.

Overall, my impression was that sometimes they will use anything to fill up airtime.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!
