First kill with 445 supermag
« on: June 26, 2005, 04:50:02 PM »
I went hog hunting Sat.and Lik2hunt wanted to watch a movie so I went by myself. Well the hogs were out in my favorite hunting spot,so I shot the biggest one that looked to be a 200 pd. one. She took off squealing and the 240 gr. Rem. really made a loud splat when it hit her.Well the hole plugged up and there was no blood trail, but the was a mud trail where she would fall carrying her right front leg. She went into the thickets where no one could dare go,and squealled some more. Well I gave up on her about a hour after dark, and returned this evening and there they were again. The one that was about half the size of the big one was there with all the little piglets. She was broadside and quartering a little toword me when I shot.
I held a little high and dropped her where she stood, and she made a few kicking circles and then stopped. Well she was a dry sow, that weighed about 130 fieldressed,so the big one the day before must have been close to 300 pds.fieldressed. The bullet did exit but not much of a exit hole, and it quickly plugged with intestions, and did not bleed out at all. I thinck I'll try the 300 gr XTP's on the next ones, and see if I can get a larger exit hole. The bigger one was shot at 112 yds. going quartering away. I aimed at the last rib on the close side and it should have busted the right shoulder, which I'm pretty sure it did since she was carrying her right front leg. I think the big one  would be in the freezer if I had the 280 with me though.
The 445 shot perfect for me and when the shot is high enough they drop.  Digger

Yup, huntin hogs sounds like a bunch of fun.....we got some here, but it's a lot of work to find em and they're in some pretty rough country in the rain forests of north western Washington..not my cup O tea!

Well I found the first hog I shot, and it turned out to be a boar about 5' long from the base of his tail to his nose. Probably would have weighed 350 to 400 pds. field dressed. The funny thing was that we had shined a light on him that night and decided it was a log. Oh well we would have had a terrible time trying to drag him out of that thicket. He had ran about 150 yds. from where I shot him. He had some weird looking cutters 2 to 2 1/2 " long that looked more like straight daggers than normal cutters. I'll get Lik2hunt on one 1 of these days, and let him get the crap scared out of him.     Digger

Yea if stuff ever quits breaking down at my house. Over the past month it's been the septic system (pumped and a new pipe and washout added) my computer, and just yesterday the central heat and air unit went out so we're using window units for now. Gonna talk to OG&E about a new heat pump I think.

BAD time for the AC to go out here in Oklahoma    Mine went out about three years ago in late July/early August.  Talk about hot!

I'm planning on making a trip out there to hunt hogs with you two this fall, so be ready.
You haven't hunted......Until you've hunted the hunters

Hey you don't want to hunt hogs with Lik2hunt because his reputation is well known to the hogs and when he shows up they leave for parts unknown. Either that are he's a jinx's because we don't ever see anything when we're together.      Digger

I might just have to get you two out here in east TN for a hog hunt. That might be something me and my cousin could put together for the spring of next year. If i can get him up to it.
