what i thought was a primer problem (see my post in the handloading section) but after a box of factory Remington 150's it is the rifle a Marlin 336 mfg in 1967. What should I check first an so on. Thanks Bob

A couple of things come to mind. Take off the buttstock and check the mainspring tension. If you have two slots, be sure to adjust to the front (nearest to the receiver). If that isn't it, you can add a #10 washer behind the mainspring and that should do the trick. Another thing is to really check your firing pin and make real sure both pieces are free and not gunked up.

Thanks VTDW sounds like it may be fixed soon than I thought. I'll look at tomorrow after work.

Luckily I have 2 Marlin 336 both 30-30 and the other was in back of the safe today after work I emptied the safe and got it out. I compared the hammer spring and both were the same the bolt on the other hand was gummed up looks like dirt and WD 40 or the such was built up, I'll go and test the results after work tomorrow and see how it goes

Well I started to just soak the bolt but I ended up taking it apart and it was still dirty I cleaned it up and put it back together and this afternoon it went bang 30 times and I was relieved. Thanks to every one that put some thought in it for me youre a great bunch
