Last year I hunted with a NEF Ultra lite .243.  The Ammo I use was Hornady 100 gr. Boat Tail Spire point Lite Mags ( The Factory load, I don't handload at this time).  I had good results (a 5 pointer and 4 does).  I was considering changing to the Winchester 95 gr. Supreme Ballistic Silver tips or Possibly Federal 85 gr. Sierre gameking BTHP.  I was looking to get better accuracy (the Hornady's shot average of 2 1/2 inches at 100 yards), but I still need to be able to put the deer down.  The deer shot last year where within a 100 yards. Should I stay with what I got in with the Hornady's od is there something better???

Hunters are the worst for wanting to fix something that isn't broke.  Who says that other ammo will be any more accurate?  Try them and if they are significantly(MOA or there abouts) more accurate then you might want to change.  If not it ain’t broke so don’t fix it.  Lawdog

Try the Federal Premium 85gr BTHP...I have been using them for about 3 years now, and along with 2 buddies we have killed about 30 deer with...
It has become my favorite bullet...but...I have places that I could have a 300 yard shot...

I also like the 100 gr Corelokts, Federal Premium Nosler Partition and the Hornady 100 gr soft point loading....I couldn't get my .243 to group well with the Hornady Light Mags either...Good Luck

KJUMP, Cabela's has the Hornady Light Mag. in .243 95 Grain SST.  These shot about a inch out of model 7.  My friend has had excellent results on whitetails with this load.

Like Lawdog said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it !"  Do you need more accuracy or are you going for bragging rights? I gave up on loading for bragging rights and the deer didn't seem to notice.

Although it would/did work, 2.5" sounds broke to me, and I am not that fussy 3 shots @ 100 for about 1.5".  I would say to try different ammo, I am not sure I have heard of any handi shooting the light magnum ammo well. If you have not already (I don't recognize you handle) I would definitely recommend asking the guys on the nef forum, the guys there are a great resource for getting the most out of your handi.

I also have a 243 handi. I have not killed anything with it yet but time and paper. I have had luck with the 100gr win pp grouping 1.5" and under out of a clean barrel. I have read on the handi sight of  good luck with the 100gr fed. I did not have luck with the core lock some have. I think that you should hang out on the handi sight awhile there are people there who can and will guide you in the right direction. There are people there getting these things to shoot way better than they should for the price. I know mine likes the o ring trick and being clean.

I have a Savage 110 in .243Win.  It has a 1 in 10" barrel twist and while very accurate with most lighter bullets doesn't shoot the Sierra 100gr. PSPs very well.  I rarely can do better than 1" at 100yds. (5 shots).  I recently started using the Hornady 95gr. SSTs and am much happier.  It's considerably more accurate.  A 1/4 to 1/2" can make a big difference.  Best wishes.

Jkump- just save a few bucks and try Hornady's regular ammo - they call it "custom".  Shoots the same exact bullet that you have had good luck with.  Hornady bullets are very respected, tried and true.  The light mags are loaded a little hotter and tend to be less predictable.  I use Hornady customs in all my rifles they make ammo for and it is always the most consistent.
