I have seen the CAI 49/56 308nato conversion selling for around $200 to $275 if you shop around. But i have seen them hitting $500 too. There's no set price on anything surplus its Condition vs. Price and how bad you want it. If it is a 49/56 I would put many rounds thru it first before i would buy it because i have heard when these get hot they can maulfunction too its too hot(308 round) for the 49/56 7.5 gun it fails on extraction sometimes on some of them. Too much gas is the problem if you reload for it on the lower part of the 308 specs it will be fine. If i had a finiky 49/56 i would reload and bring the load up just enough slowly till the gun cycles properly. Or you need an adjustable gas valve. All i'm trying to say is some of these had problems when they were redone and some are ok so i would hammer it first if i was going to buy it to make sure its ok. Century Arms International farms their work out to vendors and some of them cut meat too sad but true. Its a great little gun I have 2 in 308nato that function fine and their accurate too. BB
I let my son shoot mine(49/56 in 308) at the range when i first got it and thats the last i seen of it I had to get another one for me to shoot. All i said was you have to try this one its really neat to shoot!! Everytime he sees it he just smiles now. Its a cross between an FN49 and an sks its short like an sks and has a hefty solid reciever of an FN49. Even the orginal 7,5's are fun to shoot too and now with FNM making the new affodable ammo in 7,5 no one should be without one the Frenchies sure can make great rifles.
One of the last great deals on the French MAS 49/56 Commando Rifle in the orginal 7,5 french caliber was from SOG a few years back they were $189 with all the accessories in Unissued/rearsenaled condition these were awesome and we will probably never see a deal like that again. This is where it paid off to have your C&R FFL. Stuff like this you have to move quick on it for they sold out quickly once the word got out how good a deal they were. I really doubt it if we'll ever see any deals like that again in the future. These C&R guns must have been dirt cheap in the 50's & 60's??
