Black mouth, witch are a Sportsman introduced species, are simular to small kings ranging from 7-20 pounds, we fish for them in 80- 120 feet of water ussually using a flasher and spoon. Lots of fun but dificult to catch, two is a good day of fishing in most cases.

They are a man made fish, due to genetics. They are not suppose to even reproduce , but that has come to question as of late. They never go out into the open ocean. They stay right here in the San Juan Islands, so they can be fished year around.  They are all pen raised then released.

Black mouth dont go out to the open ocean so for the most part they stay 10 to 15 pounds. Some go 20 pounds, but Kings go 20 to 40 pounds in this area.  They also fight alot harder, not taking anything from Black mouth but a big king goes to the bottom and wont come up.

Some say that they are not supose to be. I feel that they do because of the fact that they are growing in population. But that arises the question of where because they are not seen in the rivers. It is a question that i think cant be anwsered.  They could be in the rivers and people just cant tell what they are. Might be the anwser.
