This is not exactly on-topic for the board, but I wanted to share it with you given the upcoming 4th of July celebrations

A California man was injured in a fireworks accident yesterday. He was using a “mortar” fired “aerial report” firework, the type that has a small paper “launch charge” at the base of a 2” ball. The firework is normally inserted into a tube, but the man apparently decided not to use the tube. Instead he apparently detached the launch charge from the ball and lit the short piece of fuse that continues into the ball. He held onto the firework, believing it would shoot sparks.

The result: he blew off his left hand and lost the thumb and two fingers of his right hand. His remaining 2 fingers and hand were severely damaged.

I know heÂ’s a good candidate for a Darwin award, but itÂ’s a good reminder of the importance of safety

John,

Safety is a topic that can never be discussed to often.

Regarding incident in question, a favorite quote comes to mind:

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." --Albert Einstein

John -

Thanks for bringing that up.

When I talk about 4 rules for this forum, SAFETY is ALWAYS FIRST.

You've heard me say that I've seen a cannon explode up front and personal and that I KNEW for several years that I'd never live to twenty-one.

That brings up one of my favorite quotations:  You've gotta be tough if you're stupid.

Saftey is planned.

He's not eligible for Darwin he didn't kill himself.

Tim and I do our very best to discourage all those here from applying for membership in that dubious club.

He does at least deserve a honorable mention.
I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.
