mt 30-30 I bought the 243 barrel from you and was wondering what factory ammo was best in it and or reloads?I just mounted it on my frame and it fit better than the factory barrel that came on it figured by asking might save me from buying bunch of extra boxes of shells! Thanks in advance!yottey

I bought that rifle just to get the action and stocks, which I set back to get a 357 barrel. By the time I got it, I had already given up on that caliber, so never even put a round through it. The first two Handi 243 barrel's I owned and shot. They both were Ultras. The only weight bullet I was trying was factory 100 grains, because I was trying for a deer load. I tried both Winchester and Federal, and those two seemed to perfer the Winchesters. Only problem, with both, was two would look good, and the third would be way out, up to 4 inches. Wasn't always the third round. And never went the same direction. I switched scopes, stocks, actions and bedding set-ups. Finally gave up on them. And at least 3 out of 20 would stick in the chamber. Yes, I tryed all the fussing tricks the forun routinely mentions. Then I found a Ultra 7x57, and lost all interest in another 243.  A large numger of forum members have good luck with 243s, and I'm happy for them. I just lost interest. My Remington 243 continues to shoot very well.

Yottey, the Federal 100gr Hi shoks shoot real good outa my Ultra, less than moa, they call em Power shoks now. Gonna try some of the Fusion ammo as soon as it gets here, I'm hopin it will shoot as good as the '06 ammo does in Mac's Ultracomp.

Have fun and good shootin to ya..

Thanks for the help Wally! I bought the barrel to use as a close range woods deer rifle for a 12 year old. Until I can trade or find something on the line of a 30-30 or 357 or 44 to be recambered to 357max or 445mag!I was more worried about where the first couple rounds go out of a cold barrel. Thanks yottey

Yottey:

Do you plan on reloading for it? If so...give the Nosler/Winchester Combined Technology's 95 grain Ballistic Silver tip a try...I've had real good luck in the accuracy department with it...Remington nickle cases Rem 9-1/2 primers and Reloader #22 produced some very nice groups for me...I'm loading .004" off the lands with it...it should work great for whitetails...and is a pretty mild shooting load...I worked my barrel over pretty good hand lapping  with Flitz and then making sure it was completely clean before shooting it with a couple differnt cleaners...

I hadn't planed on loading for it but will if I need to.As for flitz I have enough big tubs of it to do the job if I can remember where I put them!I load for dozen + calibers allready but hadn't planed on 243!I would like to find factory ammo for the brass and I have a feeling it won't see a box of shells a year!thanks again guys!yottey
