But why do you/don't you, carry a knife??
« Reply #30 on: May 02, 2004, 10:39:56 AM »
My usual routine is my Cold Steel Voyager 4" clipped inside of my right front pocket, Keychain in my Left Front pocket, wallet in my left rear, and leatherman in my right rear (while Im at work). I wear a lot of cargo pants, and then I put the leatherman and my wallet in the cargo pockets (one on each side). I NEVER EVER leave the house without my knife and my keys, even if Im just going out to mow the lawn or sit on the front porch.
I carry a knife about twice as much as I carry my wallet on my person.

Hi folks,  I've  carried a knife with me almost everyday since I was 10 years old.  When I leave for work tomorrow I will have a Case, large stockman with me, if not I'd feel lost. :-)  :-)  :-)  :-)

JUST BECAUSE !!! And that's reason enough. wouldn't feel right without one or five on me at all times. I own more than one wrench to fit different bolts and more than one knife to fit different requirements. Been that way for as long as I can remember. Jus a way of life. :D

Greetings!

I carry a grand total of 4 knives with me at all times, 3 of them on my person - 1 in the car.  I have a modified Buck Titanium folder, a Kershaw multi-tool, a Cold Steel Tanto belt knife, and in my car I keep a Cold Steel SRK.

I put my knives in my pockets and on my belt with the same casualness as putting on my watch and grabbing my wallet every day - I don't even think about it twice.  Probably use at least one of my knives every day too!

Best wishes,
Bawko

I carry a large Cold Steel Voyager clip point and a split back case whittler on me and a big do it all even start a fire with magnifying Victorinox    and a big Buck Hunting Knife in the truck...does the cold steel machete behind the seat count??? or the hatchet??? How about the axe? oh yeah I also carry my one dot(1979) Case Folding Hunter a lot, as well as my Case Hobo w/spoon in the Truck...I guess I made my point. I have a knife, blade, tool, for everything...It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

I started carrying a knife when I was a Cub Scout, about 50 years ago. I used to carry a long bladed fishing knife (Imperial), then went to Schrade lockbacks. I just put my Schrades away (heard they went out of business).
I'm carrying a  Meyerco cheapo now, and looking for a bigger, better folder. Also carry a small serated folder in my pack, and a small folder to work.

Never thought much about "why", just feels more comfortable when I have one (or more).

My kids make fun of me because I always have four or five knives on me at all times. I always carry my swiss Army knife and have for thirty years or so. Most of the time I carry the expores Swiss knif. I always carry a small Case two blade pocket knife. In my shirt pocket I always have the little stanley slide out break off blade box cutter knife. I always carry a folder but always in a belt holster. I don't like or trust those pocket clips. I have lost to many knives that way. I then usually have the Black Collins pop out 2 inch knife around my neck on a leather lace. Of course then when hunting season starts I get serious about carring knives. I have been collecting knives for about thirty years and have about 200 or so in my collection. I have most of the cold steel knives and most of the Buck knives Almost all of tyhe Victorinox knives. Many Green river and most of the Gerbers. I half half a dozen SOG 's. The lastest one I picked up today on sale was the Seal Pup. For big game hunting I carry a Buck-lite folder in my hunting vest and a Cold Steel master Hunter for a fixed blade. In case I have to cut an animal up quick and get it on ice, I garry two or three Green river butcher knives and a big skinning knife that my dad left me. I can't read the name on it but its a good knife. I have three or four Spiderco knives as well as a lot I can't think of right now. I never noticed this forum before. Glad to meet some more knife men.  Oh I have quite a few Ontario knife company knives too.

I switched to a Emerson CQC-11 when a friend of mine showed me how his opened by pulling it out of the pocket.  It has a neat (and patented, supposedly) little catch on the back of the blade to snag on the lip of your pocket as you pull it out, and it pops open.  It is supposedly faster than a switchblade because the act of drawing it makes it ready to use.

I carry one in addition to my Glock 27 because I don't keep one in the chamber, and anyone that is close enough to do me harm for that to be a problem: I can whip out the knife much faster than I can get to a concealed firearm.  (I'm no Earp)  It looks natural to hitch your thumbs on your pockets while you maintain situational awareness, as opposed to hiding your hand under a shirt or coat.

Also, as much as I like the Glock, it is WAY to noisy to open boxes.

When I turned 10, paw gave me a scout knife...taught me how to use it safely...at 15 he got me a leatherman, I have carried one ever since...I have been mocked by many city slickers/sheeple...until I am the one who stops and helps them when they are in need...
I always have my leatherman supertool, Benchmade CQC7 or (Buck 110) on me...(Heck, I walked down the Isle with both on me and my pops Glock 26)...wife knew, but then both dads most likely where armed as well...)
When a sheeple(city folks) ask me why I insist on carrying a knife, I normaly resond that God didn't give me sharp teeth or claws...they normaly shut up...

I remember one day in the mall a little kid had his shoe lace caught in the escalator, and his mom was in a panic...I just walked up, pulling out the CQC7 and sliced the shoe lace...the lady thanked me, I told her very nicely she should buy a little knife...
Both my sisters made fun of me when I got the the Leatherman Micras...but now they don't go anywhere without it...

A forgoten tool in our day as well is the Lighter...I have carried a Zippo since my uncle gave me one when I was about 14...he said a man should always have a knife and a lighter...I don't smoke, and never had...so I get the why do you carry a lighter...

Yep, I carry a lighter, too. These days it's one of the piezo-electric BICs, a Zippo either leaks all over me or runs dry of fuel since I don't smoke.

I've carried a knife since I was 6 years old, I'm more likely to forget my billfold than my pocket knife. Never had much of a thought to use it as defense, it's just a handy tool. Of course, I'm ten feet tall and bulletproof.

I always carry at least one knife in my pocket, most times 2. I had a situation while working in a large city where my having a knife saved me from having my car stolen by 2 crack heads. One ran away unharmed the other ran away with a slash across his arm that I'm sure required many stitches. I usually carry a smith&wesson linerlock folder in my front pocket and a balisong butterfly folder in my back pocket. I won't leave the house without some form of protection. Its just the law of the land I guess. Worm

First of all I carry some type of 4" folder always except when I'm sleeping with my 9mm under the pillow. I don't fly anymore either. I carry a SOG Pentagon folder for self defense in the office, to the store etc. and I only intend to use it for self defense ("hey do you have a knife I can use?" "Nope"). I carry a Cold Steel Voyager when working around my property as a work knife and a Cold Steel ProLite drop point when hunting. Also carry a K-bar when hunting on my belt (cause I'm a former jarhead and it comes in handy for hacking bush if I have to). I have Bucks and Pumas too cause I like knives. Keep 'em all sharp with a Lansky diamond stone. Never had to sharpen the SOG and hope I never will.

I just feel like I'm not completely dressed without a pocket knife.  I prefer some type of lock blade.  Right now, I am wearing a scrub suit but I have a Kershaw "Leek" clipped in the waistband behind my back.  I recently bought a Victorinox "Trekker".  It has a 4" main blade with a liner lock as well as a few gadgets.  I think I'll carry this one out in the woods.  ITry the Swiss Army knives from Victorinox.  The blades are made from good steel and will easily take a fine edge.

I have been carrying a knife for ever it seems like.  Through most of school, then on to the service, and most of my jobs since have durn near required the carry of a knife.  Nearly every job I've had has been in construction of some form or the other and you always need a knife.  I don't feel like I'm dressed without one on me now.

I work offshore now and they have recently banned knives.  They have provided us with "alternative cutting devices" that may work in Walmart but not on a mudy drill floor.  The funny thing is they've already had people injured from the Alternative craping devices.

Also I love to answere when some one ask to borrow my knife "where's yours?" :-D

I picked up a Kershaw Scallion today. This is a neet mid sized folder with auto opening blade. Shaving sharp from the box. The also make two other model, The Leek which is a little bigger and the chive which is a bit smaller. Good quality knives. Walmart handles them here. It has a pocket clip that won't let go for sure.

I've carried a Victorinox knive with me everyday since 1972. Hardly a day goes by that I don't fish it out for something.

Currently I carry a mini-champ.  the 1" blade won't do much for self defense though.
