Weaver Rings? Proper height the first time?
« on: June 28, 2005, 05:22:44 AM »
My new barrel will arrive this week.  I typically use Weaver rings and bases.  I alrerady have the base ready,  but ...Do I need 'high' rings or will the medium be enough for the hammer to clear the scope?  I will probably be using a typical size 3-9x 30....no over-size stuff.

For that small of objective...medium should work just fine...

Robert, as Mac said, it will probably work, just depends on the position of the scope and the size of the ocular bell/power ring. I use medium sig zees 99% of the time, but some scopes require the high sig zees. I can usually get away with placing the power ring just behind the hammer so it gives me just a little clearance in just the right spot, but that is a configuration that fits me well and may not for everyone for proper eye relief.

Thanks Guys.  We still have to see what We get back from NEF. The guy that had the receiver before me trimmed the end off of the hammer. (duh)  We wrote to NEF that they could restore it if it was easy, but they haven't said if they fixed it or not.

Size of the ocular bell/power ring :
I have a 32 mm scope (bushnell) which I try to mount with medium weaver rings on the Handi @ ran into the problem above like Quick: stated.
I went with the high rings from weaver and a old tasco I had sitting around for the last 25 years .work out well. The busnell still gave me pronlems :-D

I have been having to use high Leupold vertical split rings to clear my scopes  because of the size of the ocular and adjustment rings...........
