A couple of weeks ago we were talking about bore cleaners and i forgot the name of one we were talking about. It was a cleaner that you spray down the bore that foams up you can leave over night Whats the name of it? I think they said it turns blue. I want something that would work well with lead as i may decide to go with Cast Performance hard cast bullets, in my 45/70 Thanks Tanoose

Its made by Outers . Its called outers foaming bore cleaner.

WipeOut and Outers foaming bore cleaners are those that I use for copper, WipeOut specifically states it won't remove lead, but it does attack the alloys in the lead and makes the remaining lead come right out. WipeOut is harder to find, but Outers is sold at Walmart. I haven't used the Outers for lead fouling, though....but FWIW, I think they are the same stuff, they smell the same to me, what little odor there is anyway...Don't get either of em on varnish/oil type finishes, they'll remove it, they don't affect modern polymer finishes, though.

Thanks guys thats what i was looking for . i have been using hoppes #9 and do you think this will do well with hard cast bullets? Hoppes copper solvent has given me great results with copper fouling.

Hoppe's won't do anything for lead fouling in my experience, Shooter's Choice black powder solvent would be a better choice unless you can get some of the solvents designed specifically for lead or a Lewis lead remover. MPro7 has some tips for lead removal, although I've not tried it.

I e-mailed Grizzly ammunition company to see what they would reccommend as a bore cleaner to use with there hard cast bullets and Mike Rintoul reccommended Sweets 7.62. What do you guys think about using these ammonia type cleaners?

The best lead remover I ever tried is birchwoodcasey borescrubber. My .45-70 barrel was heavily leaded and it only took a few minutes and maybe 5 patches to get it clean.

Ammonia cleaners do work well, but you have to use care. If left in the barrel to long barrel pitting or etching in the barrel can occur. Lots of different solvents out there along with lots of different opinions come to no definite conclusion as personal preference usually prevails.

I do use outers foam and Butches Bore Shine . Both are supposed to not hurt barrels and they seem to work well for all fouling. At the range when I am done I use butches and when I get home I will spray in the outers foam. After a half hour I will patch it out. Ammonia will work good as I know lots of guys use sweets, Just make sure you follow the manufactures directions.
