CZ Varmit (22lr) ?
« on: April 26, 2005, 04:17:00 PM »
Anyone shooting the 452 Varmit for Silhouette? If so, how do you like it?  I have the American that is very accurate, but it is pretty light. It will out shoot my Kimber HS.

Thanks,
Mule

Brno's/ or CZ as you call them in the USA are a great gun. The most popular 22 cal Rimfire in Australia for 50 years  for all shooting. Benchresters build  rifles off  the Actions and there is guys in the usa building Custom triggers for them over their.  Thanks  Phill

CZ Adjustable Trigger

Do you have any reference to WHO might have an adjustable trigger for sale for the CZ at this time?  I'd consider it for my CZ Silhouette.

Look over at Rimfire Central.  Theres a guy (Brookie) over there that makes a home-remedy kit thats works ok.

Also there's an adjustable sear available from Brownells thats good too.

No one to my knowledge is building a first rate replacable trigger something on the order of Canjar, Timney, Shilen and many others for the CZ rimfires.
Thanks

For what it's worth... Once replacing the spring and putting in the adjustable sear into a CZ, there is no need for any other trigger. I recvd 2 guns from a guy (1- 2lb and 1-5 oz) and they both snapped like a glass rod and repeted to the same (less than .25 oz) varenace. Swee triggers for $80 add on with the brroks kit for springs and the adj sear...

Is the CZ Varmint legal for Hunter Class?

Is there any differences in the pistol grip and cheek piece of the Silhouette version and the Varmint model?

Swee triggers for $80 add on with the brroks kit for springs and the adj sear... ????

I did replace the spring but I'm limited to a 2# minumum for Hunter Silhouette.  I'd like to reduce the sear engagement but short of grinding the sear step to reduce engagement I can't do much.  An adjustable sear would be nice if anyone knows who sells it.

The Brooks kit acts as an adjustable sear (sort of).
There are two small tubes, one .014" thick and the other is .018" (wall thickness of the tube).
The instructions clearly tell you how to install them.  You only use one.  If your sear engagement is too much or too little, you try the other one.  I think they are worth the low price.

HOWEVER, I read on that other forum that in some people's guns they are both too thick or both too thin.  This seems rare.  A lot of guys love them.

My personal experience;  The thickest one drastically reduced the sear engagement.  BUT being the tinkerer I am, I made another one on a lathe with .021" thickness.  It took ALL perceivable creep out.  But just to make sure, I went back to the lathe and made one .023" thick.  NO sear engagement!
So now I use my homemade one of .021".

It crossed my mind to make a bunch of different sizes and try to sell them.  BUT I am concerned about liability.  This is serious stuff.  When you get your gun sooo close to the ragged edge, some day it might just go off.  And when the investigation is over they blame it on Feez's tube that was defective.  So I recommend trying Brook's kit and if you're not satisfied, find a machinist to make one, but tell him it's for your antique clock.

Is the CZ Varmint legal for Hunter Class?

I've been considering getting the CZ Varmint and have considered this same question.  I can't remember where I found the answer, but basically the answer is YES.   The NRA made a ruling stating that this gun is legal for Hunter Class.

Only varmint or bull barrels are specifically disqualified.  Since the CZ Varmint still has a hunting style taper, it is legal.  It is considered to be a "varmint gun", which makes it perfect for the "hunter" class.

The only thing to watch our for is keeping the gun under the max allowable weight since this rifle is heavier than most.  A Bushnell 4200 scope and steel rings may put you over the limit.

Has anyone used one of those sear's yet?  I have a CZ452 American that will shoot as well as anything but its weak point is the trigger.  I'd love to get mine cleaned up and nice and crispy.

Thanks,

Billy

PS:  Those Varmint's are nice, I like the weight.  Seems like CZ has cut back on sending over guns with nice wood from the last few I've seen since I got mine.

Like I mentioned in this post, I have used (2) of them. There is a difference between them and a "good" install with the brookie kit. The Eric Brooks kit is good, and by far the best sub $20 add on I have seen for any rifle, however the adjustable sear makes all the difference in the world.

I had a friend that ordered in Eric's kit and neither shim would work on his factory sear. I have heard of stories in the past with Eric running into this and sending you more shims until you ind one that works, but ... I had an adjustable sear on another rifle installed it on my friend's new rifle and it made 100% difference.

If you are going to shoot one of these rifles, you owe it to yourself to try out one of the adj sears...IMO, they make a difference.

I must admit that the 453 really has my attention and hopefully takes care of the creep/sear engagement problems without having to resort to the sear kits.

The 453 trigger sounds interesting and I did checkout the set trigger on the 550, but...it isn't going to be legal for Silhouette which is where this discussion started.  Smallbore Hunter Silhouette requires a 2 lbs minimum trigger pull.  With the lighter weight requirement (8.5 lbs) the quality of the trigger becomes essential.

I shimmed the CZ trigger and polished the sear but the engagement was still too great and the gun tended to wander too far by the time the trigger released.

I was on the verge of buying the adjustable sear when I test fired a Remington 541S.  Wow!  You can pick your shot any where on any silhouette target (from a rest) and the trigger break is exceeded only by my Anschutz.

I still haven't bought the adjustable sear but I will.  The CZ has become my at home practice gun with an older Lyman scope that focuses down to less than 10m while the 541S goes to the range.

One interesting note, as well as the CZ shoots, and as tight as the bore is, the shells from the CZ do not enter into the chambers of the 541S or the Anschutz 1407.  In other words, the CZ doesn't have a Match Chamber.  If someone could talk CZUSA into match chamber, a varmint barrel and an adjustable sear on the Silhouette Model they'd really have something Special going.

I have an adjustable sear on a Style (same as a Silhouette). Works just fine and I would do it again.
Thanks
