What was the origional brass they used for the 445 supermag? I am not sure if it was the 444 marlin or 30-40 krieg. :oops: I flat out forget which they used. I want to get some of the rifle brass as I feel that the starline brass seems to be holding me back. I feel like I am only gaining very little over the 44 mag in some loads. example I am only getting in the lower 1500 fps with 300 gr cast and 1400 's upper 1400 fps with 320 gr hardcast. I am also getting sticky brass to so I lightened them up a bit so feel the rifle brass will be better. So I want to try it out thanks

IMO,you are not going to find brass stronger than starline,I have used hornady and winchester and starline is way stronger.
I have starline brass in ,414 SM,44,45,454,500.
What are you setting your cylinder gap at? .002 or .004+.It does make a difference.

475/480, I have my gap set at .002. The rifle brass will be stronger than the starline brass as its ment for a rifle. I do realize that starline is the best for handgun brass :grin: .

The 445 SuperMag was originally based on the 30-40 Krag case. The 444 Marlin case was the basis for a short lived wildcat known as the 44 Rhino. It was more or less the same concept as the 445 and was used in a 357 SuperMag revolver bored out to fit. The 444 case is tapered so a 44 Mag could not be used in the 44 Rhino chamber as it can be in the 445 SuperMag chamber. The Advent of the 445 SuperMag quickly killed off the 44 Rhino.

As for strength of the brass, the Starline is plenty strong enough. Keep in mind the 445 SuperMag revolver is officially rated for EXACTLY the same pressure as the 44 Magnum and not for the high prerssures the 357 SuperMag is intended to run. Not that people don't get away with hot rodding it, but if the pressure is too high for the revolver, the best brass in the world won't save it.

Just registered for Greybeard. Saw your post. I have a bunch of 303Brit based brass, reamed for 300grainers, head thinned for wheelguns. I also have some with the head turned for use in a TC. I had both but have fallen out of bed with DW for a number of bad business practices.

If you are interested, it isn't cheap but it is virgin and STRONG!
