Unreal barrel prices, part 2...
« on: June 27, 2005, 03:26:49 PM »
I know several people recently follwed the 7x57 Handi barrel on eBay, which sold for over $300.  I thought everyone would get a kick out of the lonk below, which lists an "accurized" .223 barrel.  Funny thing is, its all ready at $158 with five days to go!!

Do people just not check to see what items actually cost before bidding?

Almost makes one wonder if you should buy barrels and sell them on ebay. Not a bad profit  :-D

Maybe that screw is made of some kind of exotic BS ..like depleated uranium...or maybe the o-ring is the reason for the xtra cost...    :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D

The whole purpose of the setscrew is to stiffen the front of the rail so you can use the front groove. That brass round head blocks the front groove. If he'd cut the head off and slot the end of the screw for a tiny screwdriver, he'd have something.

Thought everyone needed a look at this ignorant thing.
I dont think it ever was an Ultra rail, but just a standard rail that got drilled. From the prices looks like some more drilling will be going on.

The bidding started at $70 so the seller isn't being unreasonable. I bet he's happy though.

Poor folks have poor ways sometimes....I'm one of um but surely he could have come up with something other than what appears to be a brass cap screw.....

 Man, you guys need to lighten up!  Why so hostile?

I never expected it to go over $100.  Big suprize to me.  By the way, as far as the "ignorant" thing is concerned,  Mac11700 - what is so stupid about it?  The idea of the set screw came from the very folks who post to this board.  So I guess we are all ignorant.   Or Mac11700 are you just mad because I might make a profit or something.

The brass screw will not rust or corrode, will not mar the barrel surface and looks much better than a plated machine screw.  I had planned on blacking it, but never got around to it.  It can be replaced by any standard 10/32 screw if the new owner does not like it.  And, the scew head does NOT block the groove.

The rail is a standard Handi rail, don't recall ever using the term "ultra" anywhere in the description.

Hey guys, don't toss my salad.  I've described this barrel as it is.  Some folks just want a barrel without the hassel of sending off their reciever and waiting several weeks.  They are paying for that convienence.

This is a good barrel, that shoots straight, sold in good faith.    I just wanted to get my money back for it.   Tell you what though, now I'm tempted to put my .308 barrel on also!

This makes me want to list my winchester model 70 barrel on ebay. Maybe it would go for enough to buy me a lilja to replace it with.

I am always amazed at what ebay prices are.  SOmetime you get a real deal, but sometimes....
threepdr, I hope it goes higher for ya.  I'm glad cookieman wanted to keep his 243 barrel in the family though.

Personally, I'd sell to you all first, then ebay if no takers.  Can't turn my back on family.

Here is another one that just went up.  Crazy $125 buy it now price with $12 shipping tacked on and I could get one from the factory for $119 including the cost to send my receiver in :?.  Now I have gotten some good deals on e-bay but lately man it is crazy.  I was looking at a bolt for an old Remington 34 in .22 that I had.  Now that gun books for about $100 in "good" condition and the bolt for this thing is $103.5 :(  and not done.
I must be crazy.

That screw appears to be made from pure Unobtainium, making the whole setup worth at leest twice what the bid is up to !
Go MAGNUM/MAX LOAD or GO HOME !

I think some guys just don't want to go thru the hassle of sending their receiver off and wait for weeks on end and be without a receiver for their rifle.....It may be they justify the cost to avoid the whole thing... :money:

Deadeye they're paying more for the barrel than the gun cost when it was new. My guess is the guy thinks it's for an encore.

P.S. Check out this other auction from the same buyer.

$130 for a .243 barrel.
