Quite a while ago someone posted an article on a break action pistol. 17 caliber I believe. does antbody know who wrote it or where I can find it? :?

I know NEF/H&R doesn't make one, nor would it be legal to create one on their action. However I did find out that Rossi/Braztech does make one overseas.

There is a legal means to create one from a "Handi" receiver, BUT you have to apply for a $200 NFA tax stamp from the ATF and wait for a 6 month background check.

Upon approval, and ONLY AFTER you've been approved may you create one. Not withstanding state and local laws.. You must be allowed on all levels of government to own and possess an NFA type firearm.

Would be cool. But for all the trouble, one could buy another pistol, revolver or semi.

I've seen an old ad from NEF from back when they still called it a "handy gun" and it showed a pistol version. Don't know if they ever made them but they did advertise them.

I guess I am a little confused on why it is not legal to make a handi pistol. How is it different from a contender pistol?

Because once a receiver is "registered" at time of construction as being made into a rifle, you can not shorten it to a barrel less then 16in and/or an overall length shorter then 26in.

A receiver that was "registered" at time of construction as a pistol can be made into a rifle of 26" of overall length, so long as the barrel is 16" or longer. And thus, may be converted back into a pistol.

A Contender pistol is just that, a pistol. You may lawfully convert a pistol into a rifle and back again. But you may not convert a rifle into a pistol at anytime without Fed, State, and Local approval.

Now... H&R did make a lawful "Any-Other-Weapon", aka AOW, known as the Handygun, which is also regulated under the NFA. To take ownership of an existing lawful AOW is similar to to that of buying a machinegun, silencer, shortbarreled rifle or shotgun-except its only a $5 transfer tax. To create a new AOW it is $200, the same as it would be to create a new short barreled rifle or shotgun.

basically its legal only if you pay em off.

its like machine guns. they gasp and talk about how bad they are but theyll let you have one for a $200 stamp and a background check.

so the issue is not the legality and safety like they say, its that they cant tax and make money on your mods. so they found a way to do this.

nice of them isnt it.

I had an uncle that had a H&R >410 pistol called a "Doctors gun" no clue what happened to it he passed away years ago but I remember seeing it as a childd and lusting after it. It did not look nearly as clunky as the handygun.
