Guys, got my iFinder Hunt last week.... Man, am I happy that I chose that over the Garmins! The maps are amazing... You can even have it show the state's various big game unit boundaries. Maps show a ton of detail including public land. I am a happy camper!

How user friendly is that one? I'm about ready to buy a lowrance.

I have only had it for less than a week, but so far it seems very user friendly. I did end up ordering the tutorial DVD so I could get to know it inside out quicker. This thing has all sorts of bells and whistles. If you have any specific questions, email me at dakotaelkslayer@aol.com and if I don't know the answer, I will look it up in the owner's manual.
One neat thing on the mapping is that it can show you the corresponding USGS quad map. Layers and layers of information on the maps that you can turn on and shut off at will.

Keep us up to date on your iFinder.

I am glad that you are happy. How is the process of loading map data on to memory cards working? What kind of batteries are you using and how is battery life>

Again keep us informed on your iFinder. People are interested in them, but information from an user is lacking.

How accurate is the POI(points of interest) for you area?

Ya, user information is really lacking on the iFinder Hunt. No one I could find really knew a thing about them. I was just back in Michigan so I really looked at the POI's around the folk's house and was amazed at all the businesses it showed. Something really neat is the "search" function. I can search for the nearest restaurant by the type of restaurant such as "fast food". You can also search for addresses, lakes, etc.
Takes me about 30 seconds to lock on my position FROM INSIDE MY HOUSE! :shock:

How much memory does it ship with? Have you loaded any maps? From what I've read, that's a good machine. I'm interested in what's the largest memory card you can put in the thing, and how much map data it will hold.

The plus package includes a 32 mb SD card. One thing to remember is that you MUST use their SD card reader...something about it coding the card. You can only code five cards per machine. Those five cards, however, you can erase and then put a another map on them.
Called Lowrance yesterday and Derek told me that he has used SD cards up to 1 gig!!! How much memory a map takes is up to the size of the area, as well as, the number of "layers" of information you have on it. About 27 megs gives me all the layers minus the USGS quads for 3/4 of the state of ND.
VictorCharlie, if you have a specific map you want to know the size of, let me know. All you have to do is "box" the area you want to map and click a tab and it will estimate the amount of memory needed.
