Ive had this gun since the middle of the winter and have shot 3-4000 rounds through it of 6 different bullet designs and many different powder combinations. It never missed a beat in all of it and im not one that cleans guns often. Over the last five days i took the gun out clean and shot 1480 rounds through it again of many different loads and alot of i high speed steel shooting and it finally had a failure to feed. This gun shoots every load i throw in it into 2 inch or less and some around an inch. To say im pleased with this gun is the biggest undertatement ive ever made. The kimber i have now and the kimbers and springfields ive had would never make a 1000 rounds without some kind of a jam and none of them would feed wadcutters reliable. The only other 1911 ive ever owned that was even close was a colt combat commander that one feed everything but wasnt all that accurte. Let the kimber and springfield fanatics roast me for saying this but old sam colts factory knows how to make a 1911 and before you jump on me understand that theres two kimbers and a springfield in the house right now so what im saying comes from many a thousands of rounds of testing.

I will second the Colt. I have a Gov MK4 Series 70 that has had some mods to it including a throat job, I have never had a jam using any type ammo including my hard cast reloads. Its as accurate as I am. I would not consider another 45 acp.

Sounds like a cheery of a gun Lloyd. I sure whish I had better luck with Colt products. I have a series80, two troopers, python, NF .22 and an ar15.... so far the only ones without problems are the two troopers and the NF 22. So my hit and miss with Colt products is running 50%. I sure wish things were different for me.

People laugh when I say it. But, I own high end Springfields and high end Kimbers. By high end I mean I own 2 Kimbers one is a TLE the other is a TLE RL and I own 6 Springfields every thing from the Combat black stainless, a ss long slide, a campion, a operator and both TRP. One blued one ss.

I have been handgunning most of my short 24 years of life. But in that time I have never even shot a Colt 1911. :? The granddaddy of all 1911s. So I cant say any thing bad about them at all. But after some time on this forum I think it is time to get one, or, at lest shoot a few. :grin: I think I might work on that soon. Get some good hands on with the Colts.

I would take a SPRINGFIELD over a KIMBER any day of the week. And like you I have both makes in my house.

Hey Lloyd - Howdy::: I had the same sort of experiences with my Series 70 Gold Cup - it just took a lickin' and kept on tickin'. I don't recall that baby ever jamming or failing to feed. I even used it as the platform to develop my widcat 40 caliber and she always worked perfectly. I even hunted successfully with the darn thing.

My only gripes with Colt were their service policy and their politics. For a while they were having quality control problems but they may have cleared those up under the new ownership but since they are now partially 'state owned' their politics are even more circumspect.

I used my personal Colts during the southeast asian excursion and for long after. I still carry my lightweight Commander 95% of the time. I guess that's sufficient testamonial to the functional reliability of either the 1911 design or the quality of the Colt products I purchased. I also own a GI Springfield - I have enhanced it a bit but I also consider this to be a totally reliable piece. Mikey.

Hey LLoyd,

My GC Trophy 80 has been a most reliable shooter day one. I have shot it better than any other. I can see the possibility that any manufacturer can have a troubled gun. But for me Colt is the best. I shoot a Combat Commander and Kimber Custom Classic with the same results.

The Kimber Pro TLE/Rl was quite a different story...external ejector. The long and short of it is that the ejector issues could not be resolved. After four trips to the factory, I finally sold it. I told the buyer of the problems and he took the challange to work through it. Since then Kimber has a new external extractor and I understand that it works fine.

Am i ever happy to read this thread!!!! :grin: i just bought a customized gold cup from my dealer. It's slighty used, (but just by him, it was from his personal collection) i got it for $700. Did i get as good of a deal as i think i did? it's stainless with custom grips, trigger job, trillium night sights, wilson combat accessories, and more....either way...i love it!

I've owned Colts since the 60's, and have only had one bad one in the lot.
I bought a Combat Commander that wouldn't hit a 3ft x 3ft target @ 25yds. I found a guy that wanted it and let it go for $1500 in camera equipment (sold the camera equipment 3hrs after trade). I also had an AMT Long Slide that needed too much smithing to be reliable.

Currently I own 2 Gold Cups 70 Series and a Combat Commander that I had my gunsmith customize for me. I've used these guns in IPSC matches for bout 10 years with no problems other than the nut behind the trigger.
