Author Topic: Fore-end screw holes (Read 519 times)

How do y'all keep from buggering up the fore-end screw holes in the Encore barrel when removing/installing fore-ends? I got a barrel with one of the holes messed up - screw only begins to enter the hole then immediately binds. I guess I'll have to find a #8-40 bottom tap and see if I can clean it out?

For such a expensive firearm, they did a very poor job with their fore end attachment and design. My under $200 Handi rifles are much better, at least with their screws.........

I agree 100%........, pathetic design with not enough thought put into it. I also have a few Handi rifles. I think the threads will clean up - if only I could find a 8-40 tap.

I just drop the screws into the forend and put the forend in position and move it slightly until I feel the screws drop into the screw holes!
Then I always turn the screws backwards (CCW) until I feel the screws drop into the threads, then turn them forwards (CW) until snug!

I have changed mine quite a few times and I (knock-on-wood) have never messed up the threads on any of my barrels!

Hey Clark if that is the 7-08 barrel I never had a problem with the threads and I took it on and off several times. I do the same as Chuck said to make sure they go in right. If it is a problem return it anmd I will gladly return the 22-250 if you arent happy. Dont get me wrong I am not implying you arewnt happy by any means, just making the offer.
