So there are two or three different .243 Handis?
« on: July 19, 2005, 10:35:22 AM »
I got this Handi the other day thinking it was the lighest one there is (the lighter of the two offered), as it is a synth stock, and a non-bull barrel, so I believe it's not the ultra varmint.  But the stock is no true sporter weight - it's semi-bull you might say, and rather heavy for a gun I thought would feel much lighter - so which is it?  Is there 2 or 3?  Because if there's 3, I believe I got the middle weight one, not the lightest.

You also have the superlight....which now comes with a synthetic stock...plus there's the stainless, so that makes 5 versions for the .243...

20" superlight
22"
22" bull
22" Stainless
24" Ultra bull

Wow, I'm still pretty ignorant on Handis....So lemme get this straight:

There are FOUR different barrel contours in .243

1.  Superlight (which is a 20")
2.  'regular' (which is a 22")
3.  Bull (which is a 22"), and
4.  Ultra-Bull (which is a 24")

??  In other words, in *addition to* the differing barrel lengths, there are actually 4 distinct contours/thicknesses?  And which of the 4 contours is the stainless?  Mine is blue, and 22".  If the above is correct, then I suspect I have category 3 (bull), but possibly cat. 2 ('regular').  How can I tell which contour it is - #2 or #3 per above???  Thanks.

The stainless is a standard contour, not a bull barrel.

Wait a sec - process of elimination.  It's not a superlight because it doesn't have iron sights on it.  It's not an ultra bull because it doesn't have a straight, non-tapered barrel, and because it's not 24".  And I don't *think* it's a plain ol' "Bull" because it doesn't look like the Bull is available in sythentic stock.  So I suppose it's a standard.  My question now is, since the contour of the superlight looks identical to the standard/regular, and the stock is the same material, then I'm concluding that the only thing that makes it lighter is 2" less of barrel.  Or is there a slight difference to the contour which I cannot tell from the pictures there on the website?

My Superlight does not have iron sights either. Aren't they on the youth model?
