Has this ever happened to you

This doesn't really pertained to handi's but i thought y'all could help.

The last time i went to the range i took my m70 7mm-08 just to punch some paper. I bought a box of PMC 139 gr. soft points. I started shooting at 150 yards and hitting every clay piegon i had set up. i had some 3x5 notecards with so i drew an "X" on it and put it up at 50 yards to see how it would group. I was aiming right at the center of the "X"  The first shot was 1/4 in. from the "X"  Then the second shot was.......well......i don't exactly know........

Can anyone tell me what made the bullet do that?

looks like it came apart or you maybe hit some grass or big bugs in transit.

I had some varmint rounds completely come apart after nipping some oats on their way to whistlepigs in the field.

I know it didn't hit any grass. I had it pinned to a post about 4 feet off the ground. This is the first time i have seen anything like this. I was just really confused when i walked up to the line and picked it up. (after the second shot it fell off the post)

That was the only one out of the box that did that. I'm not really concerned, just more curious. I don't normally buy PMC but i needed a box to plink with and the local walmart didn't even carry 7mm-08, so i had to go to the local sporting goods store to pick up that box. I was lucky that was the last box he had.

I have heard of varmint bullets doing this if they hit a blade of grass but nothing in this big of a caliber. I have to agree with you Mitchell. Probably just a bad bullet.

I could use this in a BS session. Make up a story how i followed it in my scope til i shot the little bugger in mid-flight.

Ya never know i guess i could have hit one.....who knows.....it would be cool if i did.
