.45cal SAF 325grnr.

Strongly considering using this particular bullet for hunting Ak moose instead of my 345WLNGC this fall and would appreciate any info. on the performance of this bonded slug . I will be using it in my RBisley .45 colt at velocities right around 1200fps. At them vel. is this going to expand properly and drive deep. Your input on your experience and knowledge is important. thanks

No reason the 325 will not work, Good penatration  and plenty knock down power at those velocitys. I like the bigger bullets my self. Good luck Sir.........Joe..........

Sure is a purty bullet sitting on top of a nickel case. Flies good and as I said really accurate. I was curious that this bullet may have been intended for the use in the  Casull pistola. I look foward on sneaking up to a bull and taking em in the neck if I can or whatever shot is given as there is no two shots really alike.

I don't have a clue what bullet that is you're talking about. But darn few jacketed bullets are going to do much expanding if started off at 1200 fps. Inside 50 yards perhaps but unlikely much over it. As much as I love them on deer and other thin skinned light game I don't use JSP or JHPs on thicker skinned or heavy game. I go to hard casts with a wide meplat.

I guess i messed the boat, I was thinking he was talking about the hard cast lead bullets, I didn't pay that much attention I guess, But even a jacked bullet that size will do ok if the shot is fairly close although i would shoot for center mass and not the neck.

I've the attention of two wise men  I understand you're concern on using hollow points BUT these are SWIFT A FRAME bullets - I'm digging deep here. I have and prefer to use hardcast at them velocities but I bought these darn expensive bullets and am mentally stumped as to why not - they have to be better than the standard "hollow points" cmon'--don't mind me as I am talking to myself as well. My concern is this "will the animal fall to my shot"? Is this truly a Swift with the reputation that follows? I have gone to other forums and have not much response as well----something different here. But,HELLO Graybeard, how you been? I will be patient - might sneak up on one and shoot the first shot with a SAF and a hardcast follow up---I will let you know how it goes later in the fall. thanks

Never seen the Swift A Frame referred to as an SAF before.  :eek:  Just didn't recognize it.

Yes the Swift is a good bullet as is the Nosler Partition HG. But again I'd personally limit them to soft skinned game and use hard casts on heavy or dangerous stuff. That's just me.

Now that I know the bullet we're talking about I"ve looked back at your orginal question and see it's moose in AK you're thinking of. Do as you please but I'd not personally. I know we generally think of a 325 grain bullet as a rather large chunk of lead but it's really not so big in a .45 caliber gun. It's a pretty short fat bullet and short and fat do not equal great penetration. If it expands it's shorter and fatter and likely lighter also. If it doesn't expand it doesn't have the meplat to perform as a solid even tho that's bascially what it is just a solid punching thru.

My advice would be to use the cast bullet you mentioned and save the SAF for lesser game.

Did you ever work out a good load yet? I have a bullet similar to it. Graybeard tried my bullets a while ago, so knows the one.

HHI 812, developed a load? loaded up 22grns of H110 with that particular bullet and yet to try some sort of media. Have 22.5 for my 345grn WFNGC BTB and that without a doubt is the carry for me. Still curiuos about that Swift bullet as that was the reason I bought them in the first place. I see you're in Anch.--going huntin soon?

Yup, in Anchorage, but not sure if I'll get some hunting time in? A couple new foster kids and lots of honey-doos. Every now and then I do get to the range.
