I had an SP 101. It was an early modell that had a short cylinder that would only fit 125 grain bullets. The cylinder didnt spin freely and would get worse when it got dirty. the action was rough. A gunsmith worked on it whithout much improvement. I got rid of it. Newer modells were much better. I loved the gun. It was accurate,and well built except for the moving parts.....Horsefeathers.

I think I've had my 101 since about 1995 and like it a lot. Its solid and it fits my hand very well. I did smooth off all the edges on the frame, trigger and trigger guard. I can hit much better with it since I installed the crimson trace laser grips - just wish they were rubber coated.

I've shot everything .357 mag from 80 or 90 gr Glaser safety slugs to 125 gr jacketed to 180 Fed Cast cores in mine with no trouble at all. Mostly I shoot mild 38 cast and 357 mid power 140 gr home loads.

I don't think the Ruger trigger will ever be as smooth as an S&W but I liked the ruggedness and price of my 101. I think the Wolf Spring kits can help the works but I haven't bothered. Don't plan to ever let it go. May pick up a 3 inch version one day.

:cb2: The trigger is the only negative thing I can think of. You will need to get a trigger job. Other than that, the SP101 is a great little .357. Like Dand, we have had one for years and put everythig you can think of through it without a hitch.

I really love shooting, and when I go, I like to take my time and enjoy it. For my wife, practice is a chore, and she wants to get finished in a hurry, so she can go do something else. One day at the range, she shot 250 rounds of .38+P in about 20 minutes or less. She turned to me and said, "My gun is hot." She handed it to me and burned me with it. It was too hot to open the cylinder. I had never had that happen, but I can make five boxes of ammo last a lot longer than she can! Point of the story is, that little SP101 is the best built little snubbie on the market.

Another nice thing about it is the way it is made. The only screw in the whole thing is the one in the grip. It has a one piece frame and it is a breeze to disassemble for cleaning.
