How's your bowhunt going??
« on: October 10, 2005, 06:45:48 AM »
Looking at some reduced deer numbers here, Pilgrim!
Brown County has been hammered long enough, by T-zones. This year the acorns failed in a lot of woods because of the dry time this summer.  Southern Oconto county isn't looking too good either... anybody see something different? I been letting deer pass in years past, this year I haven't seen fur.   :(

I finally got out this year for the first time tonight but decided I would restrict my shots to 15-20 yards. I am using a traditional setup w/o sights, etc... and have not had as much practice as I usually do.

It was a good night. Lots of turkeys, roosters, 2 does, 2 fawns and 2 bucks (~2 1/2 year old 8 pointer and a basket 6 pointer). The bucks were chasing the does and from time to time began to fight. Lots of grunting.

The 8 pointer came w/in 30-35 yards and stood there. All went by out of my range. Fun. :-)

Could have shot a buck tonite at 15 yards but It would have went on private property so I passed. :x Right on the edge of it.  Gas is killing my hunting since I am on a fixed income. I spent 38 bucks in gas today and 8 for oil and some seafoam for the gas tank. and nothing to show for it. Did not see any grouse or ducks or geese and the few deer.  that would have bought lots of meat at the local wallyworld grocery store.   I agree the T zones are making the deer hunting more difficult. But that is what the DNR wants to get the herd back to the levels of busting your butt to kill a deer.  :(  I got some cash saved for the T zone hunt so hope to kill a deer then if not before with my xbow. Biggest problem I can see with the Tzone hunt expecially if you live next to a neighboring state is selling these guys all the permits they want for 20 bucks a pop. I live in Douglas Co and MN guys were taking back does by the trailer load and that is not right.  :x  I saw it and I have found the carcasses they dumped in the woods as they could not take back whole deer at the time. I also had others tell me of it. I can see getting one with your license but not buying them by the handfulls. Seems to me if they are going to do it it should be a perk for the state residents. Some may disagree with that but thats the way I feel about it.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I am too late.  The bear and wolves ate em all before I could legally hunt.  Seeing does and none have fawns.  Buck sign but no bucks.  And acorns EVERYWHERE!!!  I know I do not hunt in WI.  But I am only a few miles away.

i havent gone since bear season ended.  i spent so much time on that that i am still playing catch up.  now i have a monster cold...but as soon as i kick it..ill be back out.

acorns here have been phenominal....thats what messed up bear season for me.  i shot a doe last day of bear season.  deer number seem pretty good here.  now that moon phase is going away from full i think right after t-zone...(if the woods doesnt get the crap pushed out of it) the bucks will be out n about and a prime part of the season will be here.  we're still in pre rut.  bucks arent booting each other too much yet.

Still no deer, saw some boned out rib cagse near the creek though.   Got a strong suspicion maybe somebody is jacklighting them. :? Nobody really cares now that deer are public enemy #1...
