I think agonizing over calibers, and what guns to buy them in, is part of the fun of getting a new gun. It's like pre-season scouting, stand building, shooting lane clearing, planting food plots etc.. . If we could go out to the back 40 and shot a trophy buck anytime we wanted to. Most of us would get bored and lose intrest in hunting pretty fast. I think most people would get just as bored with buying new guns, if they always new exactly what they wanted.
