I have aquired an old (?) Shotmaster shotmaker. It looks like it may be unused. I have been unable to find any info on the maker or how to use it. I have tried searching the patents on the machine from Australia, New Zealand and USA with no luck! any help here??

This is an interesting idea that I have never heard of before. I can understand how this can be a valuable tool for recycling reclaimed shot, but I don't understand the wheelweights.

My experience with wheelweights is that they are a real mess to work with and need to be pre-processed to clean the filth off of them before they're used for bullet casting. Using wheelweights in a melter is a great way to ruin a bullet pouring furnace in a hurry (this is the voice of experience.)

I also find that wheelweights are kind of expensive, relative to bags of chilled shot.

Are you doing this because you have a mother lode of wheelweights?

I buy used wheelweights for between a nickle and a dime a pound and clean up and cast into ingots 400-600 pounds in my annual half day session. That looks pretty cheap to me compared to the roughly 75 cents a pound shot runs in my area.

Even if it did not make economic sense, he's having fun playing with his new toy. That's what shooting and reloading are all about anyway.

I find that most people are buying commercially made bullets.

Wheel weights would be perfect for making hard shot as long as you ingotize them first to clean them up. One would never want to put straight, dirty ww in a bottom pour furnace as it would quickly clog it up. WW have just enough antimony in them to make the shot hard.
