Remington 700 VS 22-250... Questions
« on: August 18, 2005, 05:37:00 AM »
Guys, I post on the NEF forums and Deer hunting forums, but this is my first post on the Remington Forum.

I just purchased a 700VS in 22-250 and need some ammo recommendations.  For this season, I will be shooting a factory load of some sort since the time is too short to develop a load for it.

I had a Savage 11G that would group 55 grain Remington PSP's sub-moa @ 100 yds... However it was stolen July 4th weekend.  Any experience w/ this ammo in the 700 VS?  I want to stick w/ a PSP bullet since this is going to be a deer rifle.

Any good handloads using the 55 grn PSP for this weapon?

Thanks for any help you can guys can lend...

There are no bad .22-250 factory loads. No one can tell you in advance what your particular rifle will like. Guns are individuals and what works to make bughole groups in one might scatter like shot from a shotgun in another. It's not the fault of the ammo but just the harmonics of the rifle.

Remington ammo is excellent. As a rule Hornady ammo is as accurate as any I've ever put in my guns. The same can be said pretty much across the board with Federal ammo. I use very little Winchester stuff so can't really speak to that.

But only by buying several boxes and trying them in your rifle can you tell what will work. What no one here tells you works super in theirs will be any assurance it will do so in yours. Wish it weren't so but that's life.

Thanks.. I know what you mean. I've got several boxes of the Remington to shoot up, so I may be just fine w/ it.. My Ruger 30-06 just loves Hornady light magnum 150 SST's, but would group the "custom" 150 SST's (2" group @ 100 yds from a rest)..

Bruce Hogden's classic .22-250 load is 38 grains H380 with a 52 grain match bullet. It works well with 55 grain PSP too. Mine happens to shoot best with 39.5 grains, I use it for both bullet weights. As for factory loads, the Federal Premiums shoot as well as anything.
