Anyone hunting with the Ruger .204 cartridge?
« on: December 25, 2005, 05:10:48 AM »
How is this cartridge doing? After the initial press it received I read very little about it. Rilfes chambered for the cartridge are starting to pop-up on the used gun rack in my area in barely used condition at bargain prices. I'm tempted to pick one up just as a fun plnker and coyote/fox gun. It seems like they aren't selling well however.

All things considered, perhaps you can work out a good deal. I would think that this cartridge would eventually take off. I have considered one myself. A 32g bullet with a muzzle velocity of about 4100fps would make a dandy coyote/vermin round. Check out the Gun Blast articles on it.

I picked up a CZ 527 kelvar stocked 204 in Oct. Its very accurate with 32 Sierra blitz Kings. I have only called in 1 red fox and got him at about 20 Yds, It blew a big hole on the off side. My favorite calling gun is a 527 American in 221 firball all coyotes and fox taken with it have had no fur damage, you need to use the right bullets. any of the ballistic tip bullets seem to blow up to easy, The 50 Sierra Spirepoints seem to penatrate better. I think the 204 is more of a small varmint round Praire Dogs and wood chucks gophers. just my observations. Good Shooting And Good Luck     Deathray
