Anyone have a Rem 700 VS in 308?
I'm thinking of updating my long range comp rifle and I'm looking at this one. The PSS isn't much different other than the stock I'm told.
Like to hear any info or ideas.

Personally I don't care for the 700P. The palm swells are huge, not comfortable for me at all. KN

I own the 700 VS SF (Stainless Fluted) in .308 (but they don't offer the SF in .308 any more.) That notwithstanding, my VS SF in .308 is simply outstanding. It constantly shoots sub inch groups with virtually any kind of factory ammo. Best to date is Hornady 165 grain running a little under 1/2" - same with Federal 165 grain Sierra Boattails :wink:

That's encouraging to me Zachary as I have a 700 VS SF in .22-250 coming by the end of this week and I can only hope it shoots as well as your .308. Can hardly wait to try it out....

Zachary: I own a Model 700 with stainless, fluted barrel, but there isn't anything else on it concerning the model. It has the "plastic" stock with the whitish cords running through it. Can you tell me anything more about it? Wade

I own a Remington Sendero SF (Stainless Fluted) in .300 Win. Mag. and the Remington VS SF in .308.

I just now went and checked both of these rifles to see if they mentioned the model. To my surprise, the only thing that these rifles said with regard to model was "Remington" and "700." As such, neither rifle said "Sendero" or "VS SF."

If your .308 has the stainless fluted barrel and the white spider webbing, then it is a VS SF - which is what I have. The stock is not really "Plastic." Rather, it is an expensive true composite stock. It is made by HS Precision and Remington buys them from HS. The true plastic stock are those junk stocks (of which I certainly own a few) that are called "injected molded stocks." Believe me, you and I own one heck of a rilfe in the VS SF. Congratulations to all who have a VS SF! :grin:

I had a lefty VS in .308 that shot so well that I kept the barrel when I sold the rifle! It shot 175 and 168 Sierras into an inch on several occasions at 300 yards. What more could you ask for, fer chrissake?

That barrel's on another lefty 700 and still shoots well, despite the leade beginning about eight inches out (or so it seems)! They are throated AWFULLY long, but it doesn't seem to matter. Go figure.

Another I have is a .22-250 that shoots every bit as well, has the same long throat. I froze and lapped that one since it was rough and used to walk as it heated or cooled. That cured it. It shot 3 Berger 55 HPs mollied by me into .18" two weeks ago.

The VS's work for me and came with the handle on the correct side!

I've got one of those that I picked up at a gun show last sumer. It will consistantly outshoot the PSS I used to have, and is much more comfortable as well. It really screams with Speer 125gr. TNT bullets, 100 yard groups are usually just a ragged hole. It's not as good with 168 MKs, but I haven't done much load workup on it yet. IMHO, it's a decent rifle, looks good and is well made. If you get a newer one you can swap out the bolt shroud for one from a PSS to get rid of the key lock, adjust the trigger, and you're in business.
