You're alittle late. I think you are the second to have the 500 S&W. But be sure to give us a range report on that beast    J/k but do give us areport on it.

The magtech 400 grain ammo chronied at 1740fps. And penetrated a 17 inch chunk of pine with the core of the bullet  coming to a rest just inside the next chunk . Recoil is like a light 12 gauge load.  And it REALLY kills cans.

p.s. magtech says the ammo is 1600 fps from a 10 inch barrel.

jerkface11,

Could you please tell me what the rate of twist is for the .500 S&W. Also if you have a set of calipers, what the land to land and groove to groove measurements are. I have a project in mind and need to know these three things before I can proceed. Thank you for any information and if anyone else knows these three things please chime in.

You can check the twist rate with a cleaning rod and patch on a tight fitting jag....run the patch into the bore just short of the throat, mark the rod at the muzzle, withdraw the rod from the bore so the mark makes one half turn allowing the rod to turn freely. Measure from the muzzle to the mark, double that for the twist rate. IIRC, the handguns have a rate of 1:15" or so.

jerkface11,

Thanks for your information, if you can tell me the land to land measurement and twist rate per quickdtoo's instructions, I would appreciate it. If the groove to groove is only .500 it might not work, I was hoping for a land to land of .500 to .504 and a groove to groove of .507 to .511 with a twist rate in the 1:24 to 1:32 arena.

If anyone has any additional information, I would love to hear it. Thanks guys.

I need the information 'for I can let anybody know what's cookin'.

Here is a clue, the range report will not be on the Centerfire rifle forum but it will be in the H&R/NEF block and nobody has one that I am aware of.  That is all the clues 'til I get the rest of the information I need to know if this project gets the green light. If jerkface11's groove to groove .500 measurement stands, I think I may be sunk.

I don't want to have to purchase one only to find out it will not work, I am patient and will wait until enough guys get one of these and I get the information I need. I am going on a Bull Elk Hunt in Colorado in September and am working on that perfect load for the NEF Huntsman, so this project may just have to wait until this winter, unless of course I can get the information I need sooner.

Thanks guys.

I am still looking for information on the .500 S&W. Twist rate, land to land and groove to groove measuremants. Length from breech to rifling and inside and outside case measurements would also be appreciated.

Thanks for any and all information.
