Anyone ever see a shot out K-31 Swiss rifle barrel?
« on: August 01, 2005, 01:56:32 PM »
I bought my first K-31 Swiss rifle the other day, a 1948 production is good condition, with the usual stock dings.  Nice bore, and from what I have read on this gun, this is normal.

Has anyone experienced a worn/shot out bore on a Swiss K-31?  I am also thinking of getting a model 1911, how rare are they and can I use the current issue of surplus ammo on the older rifle without harm?  I know that the Swedish Mausers were looked after and noted as far as the barrel wear went with the side stock disc.  Did the Swiss do anything like that? :D

Thanks.

It is exactly the same ammunition because it was developed for the 1911 model, hence the designation GP11.

jackcrevalle is correct.I was wrong.I was thinking of the older long S/R which used a different ammunition.Just goes to show you what happens when you open your mouth without having firm knowledge of what you speak.Sorry about that, chief.

While I suppose there could be some worn bores out there I bet they are few. Every post I have seen on the net about the K31 folks have said the bores are perfect or next to it.

I have seen one site on the net which I will not mention where the guy selling them says you should buy from him so you do not get a worn bore as he grades them. Well that may be fine but I really think he is using that as a scare tactic so you buy from him to be guaranteed a good bore. Takes all kinds I guess.  :x  From what I have heard the guns coming from all the dealers have had great bores. Since they all seem to be imported by Century they all seem to be pretty close even the ones that are beat up on the outside seem to have good bores. Jim

With regards to Swiss rifle wear?
« Reply #6 on: August 02, 2005, 02:16:10 PM »
I was curious about the extensive rifle practice that the Swiss do, and how it would wear out their rifles.  I recently read a book about the Swiss, mostly focusing on the 1940's, and how they were expected to be part of the various rifle clubs.  It seems to me that these guns would wear out, or did they not fire them as much as the author seemed to hint at?  Or, is the steel that much superior to modern rifles, as we know modern guns  can wear out with use?! :?

Some of the guys I shoot with use cast bullets in their .308s to help them last as they shoot alot, I tried it in my 30-06 and decided to use the jacketed bullets as I don't shoot that much with it, and it is better in the accuracy department.  Did the Swiss use work guns, in other words, guns that would see hard regular use (club guns), wear out, get rebarreled, and keep the steak and potatoes guns for storage at home, and the expected emergency from invasion?

Thanks.

The guys on the Swiss forum could answer this better than me or maybe some of the others here. http://www.swissrifles.com

I do have to disagree with you on cast  lead bullets as in all reloading you find the right load it will be accurate so it is with cast bullets. What is a 22? they are a lead bullet and they are very accurate as are some of the other guns that use lead bullets. Jim
