Does anyone load buck shot?

Anyone have any hint to getting all the buck in the hull?
I am placing it in the hull and trying to get all to fit.

Case in point 10-0. Three levels of three seam to work well, but then I have one left that doesn't fit very well. Is there a trick?

dont take this wrong, but why not just leave the 10 th one out?
one ball is not shouldnt mean that much. if you really need the last ball you can try putting the shell on a vibrating case cleaner and shake then so they settle

I only loaded 9, but I wasn't sure if that was the best method. It seams to leave a little space in the hull.

So far I have not tried buffer. I wanted to master the simple stuff first.

The load doesn't call for buffer.

If the load does not specifically call for buffer, then I would NOT use buffer; to do so could raise pressures to a dangerous level.
What are the particulars of your load (hull, powder charge, wad, ect). If you are using the regular plastic wads for reloading shot, you may have to find a differnt load. I used some older peters "blue magic" hulls a while back, and they just wouldn't crimp right....left a big gap in the opening. If that is the case, you can try and remedy the situation by using a tyvek patch, available from BP or Precision reloading. Other than that, you might just have to try a different load combination. One trick you can try (if using standard plastic wads, such as the remington or Winchester type), is to compress the "arms" of the wads so they have a little more "give" when crimping. Load up the hull as normal, but instead of putting in the buckshot, fill the wad about half way with birdshot and seat with the rammer tube of the reloader. Then dump the shot, add the buckshot, and crimp. Hope this helps. Good luck.

This is my first attempt at loading shotgun shells. I was reading on a different board that you needed to place the buck to make it fit. I am very close to making this work. I think, if I compress the wad a mm or 2, it will look right. the reason I posted was to see if their was a trick in how the buck was placed (2 by 2, 3 levels of 3, ...). I want to try other buck load (000, 00, 4). Any suggestions on how to fit it in would be appreciated.

BTW, I totally agree with your comments on buffer. I bought a little pamphlet from Ballistic products. Buffer sounds like a good way for a novice to get into trouble.

I've loaded some buck for the boys to hunt with . They usually put one in the tube after the slug . On the 10-0 I think it would be 3 rows of 3 and 1 in the center and crimp . If the balls are too big to get 3 in a layer it would have to be 5 rows of 2 . Sometimes I have to use a wooden dowel to place and seat the balls . I've also noticed that the balls will leave bumps on the outside of the hull when crimped but won't hurt anything as long as it will chamber .
